They are very solid. I've got one 2x4 Expedit full of books, and it's super sturdy.
We also use a 2x4 Expedit, laid horizontal, as a changing table for the baby.

I got the shelving units from Amazon. Target also has something similar, IIRC.
And the couch was my roommate's. He got it for $100 at a thrift shop. He has moved out, and my new roommate has a much nicer looking--but far less comfortable--couch.

IKEA will sell EXPEDIT shelves until they're all gone, it confirmed, and the KALLAX will hit stores on April 1st.
"I think our customers may be worried that they won’t have the wonderful function and flexibility that they had with EXPEDIT, but this is not the case," said Simonsen.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
Wanted to turn you guys onto a new store that opened in Austin today - The Sound gallery.
https://www.facebook.com/soundgaller...ref=ts&fref=ts
http://soundgalleryaustin.com
Nice vintage gear. They must have 100 vintage turntables for sale. They have records. Mostly new reissues.but they are looking into buying higher end collections. They may start getting newer Pro-ject turntables in eventually. They have an onsite tech. Tons more gear in storage. I spent about 2 hours hear today. Bought a couple of records - Spiritualized Ladies and. Gentleman ... And Coltrane Giant Steps. Later I liquored the wife up, took her in and her mind was blown. She gave me permission to buy a Luxman pre amp. Set it up and we are both very happy. It's warmer and substantially less harsh than my integrated.
So if you get to Austin . . . This place in dangerous. It's about 10 min from me. I foresee some Saturday night impulse record buys.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I bought an Ortofon 2M bronze cartridge off eBay from a "grey market" seller. It was significantly discounted. He had a buy it now and I made a make offer. Saved $70

Re: The VINYL Thread!
I have the blue now. Love it. A new store opened less than 10 min from me with restored TTs, stereos, speakers and new and used vinyl. Trying to decide if I put it on my music hall or wait and see if I get a TT from these guys. Still looking at VPI travelers too. Maybe I shouldn't have bought it, but I had just bought a LUXMAN pre amp from these new guys fully recapped. I was celebrating with some wine and looking at eBay. Hmmm wonder what happens if I make this guy an offer? Williamthacker on eBay if you're interested.
Oh and the new store :

I'm going back tomorrow. Free beer on Tuesdays.

So I am rockin' the new beck. It is different. I like it. It sounds like he was depressed while recovering from the spinal cord injury and put his heart into a few of the songs.
On another note. Can someone tell me where to find info on "best sounding" older vinyl?
I am looking for Zeppelin I in EX or so shape but I know certain releases from '69 sound better some.

We’re huge vinyl fans here on Bloody Disgusting, especially since we not only collect the cool new offerings, but try and get stuff that actually sounds better on the format.
Today we’re excited to exclusively announce Mondo’s latest release, The Omen, composed by Jerry Goldsmith.
Arriving with artwork by Phantom City Creative (Halloween vinyl art), the product comes pressed on 180 Gram Black vinyl with randomly inserted “Mark Of The Beast Translucent Red” (limited to 200 copies).
You’ll be able to score this vinyl and celebrate my birthday on the same day: March 4th.
The vinyl will be available for purchase on the Mondo website. Watch the Mondo Twitter for time announcement.
This is the second Jerry Goldsmith score we have released, following last year’s Poltergeist. This is an expanded edition of the Original soundtrack, featuring tracks that have never before been released on vinyl (marked with asterisk*). It was mastered for vinyl by James Plotkin.
Tracklist
01) Ave Satani (2:34)
02) On The Night (2:35)*
03) The New Ambassador (2:34)
04) Where Is He? (0:56)*

Some original cover art by PCC. haven't seen the movie in quite a while so honestly don't recall any of the tracks. Will have to seek a few of them out.

I have no idea who Mondo is or why they release horror soundtracks but maybe they'll re-release the pretty rare soundtrack to The Shining some day. On yellow vinyl.

Re: The VINYL Thread!
So...I wasn't really sure where to put this, but since we've got some audiophiles here, I hope I can get some help.
I finally bought a receiver. I got the HK 3390 and some Infinity Primus bookshelf speakers to go with my U-turn Orbit turntable.
When I hooked everything up last night...I got nearly no sound. I could hear the faintest trace of music when my receiver was turn to it's max (10db). I thought maybe the banana plugs were the problem, so I took those apart and hooked the wires up bare, no change. The mute button wasn't on. I reset it. Nothing has helped me.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or perhaps if my receiver is bunk?

Does that receiver have a built-in pre-amp? If not, you gotta buy an external one. The best and easiest way to tell if your receiver has one is to see if it has a "Phono" input. If so, then it does. If not, then no, and that's something you have to buy.
Can you post pics of your system?
