Chalk up another vote for CC: Beastie Boys Anthology. Just about every video they ever made is on this disc, short of You Gotta Fight (For Your Right to Party). Multiple angle controls in many of the videos. Band commentary through them all if you choose that too. Just a great presentation over all.
Dream Theater's "Metropolis 2000: Scenes From New York" is a great concert performance. The band are simply amazing. The sound is decent, but I've only got a pair of them goofy computer speakers...so it must be very impressive on a real sound system.
Another DVD, but not so much a musical performance is Red Hot Chili Pepper's "Funky Monks". This is more of a documentary filmed during the making of what is arguably their best album ever "Blood Sugar Sex Magic". For those who love the album and are interested in how it was recorded etc., you can't go wrong with this DVD. With that in mind, has anyone seen their new DVD yet? I have not...perhaps I'll add a thread over in DVD review section.
Some other DVDS:
Weird Al: The Videos...I think this one has every video he ever made on it.
Incubus: When Incubus Attacks Vol. 2 (where is Vol. 1?): A good collection of their videos from earlier days right on up to (but not including) Morning View album. Also plenty of concert performances, a few acoustic performances of songs, and even a goofy performance of Pardon Me on Mad TV.
Steve Vai: Alien Love Secrets It's the entire EP performed here by Steve and the band. There's also Steve's commentary over the "videos" as well, and until I heard that, I had no idea that the band was not performing live. They really are that dead on.
Rage Against The Machine: Battle of Mexico City A decent concert performance (and their first, and I guess only in Mexico) and a few interesting political things thrown in too by Zack De La Rocha, including an interview he conducted with Noel Chomsky (sp?).
The Doors: Collector's Edition....no, not the movie (although thats cool too) this is a collection of a few of the "long form videos" that were previously just available individually on VHS: "Dance on Fire", "The Soft Parade", and "Live at the Hollywood Bowl". Plenty extras on their too, including band commentary.
Metallica: A Year and a Half in the Life of... Another good "making of" for the self-titled "black album."
