My favorites:

Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense
Phish: Bittersweet Motel
Nine Inch Nails: And All That Could Have Been
Everything Is Nice: The Matador Records Anthology

DVD Slut 03-09-02 11:24 PM

NitroJMS 03-10-02 12:12 AM

I only have a few (and bear in mind that I like pop), but I like Dave Matthews Band: Listener Supported and Britney Spears: Live and More. DMB is just a good show and the Britney disc has some nice 5.1 remixes of her songs to demo your systems. In fact all of her DVDs have decent 5.1 versions. That's just a particularly strong one.

Gimme Shelter. Duhhh, everyone knows that.

idvd420 03-10-02 12:40 AM

Beastie Boys Video Anthology Criterion, and another vote for Nine Inch Nails: And All That Could Have Been.

Due to content or is the sound quality that good? I have it on VHS and am on the fence about replacing that one with the DVD.
If the sound quality is outstanding that would do it for me.

JAA 03-10-02 06:06 PM

Based on (sound/video/performance) quality:

Peter Frampton: Live in Detroit
Black Sabbath: Last Supper
AC/DC: Stiff Upper Lip
Deep Purple: Come Hell or High Water
ELO: Zoom
ELP: Live at Royal Albert Hall
Queen: We Will Rock You
Queensryche: Operation Livecrime
Yes: House of Yes
Styx: Return to Paradise
Steely Dan: Two Against Nature

NIN: And all that could have been is my favorite music dvd.
I also like Smashing Pumpkins: Greatest Hits because their videos are so great.

Smidget 03-10-02 09:20 PM

I love my Green Day and Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits DVDs and............. well............ my Weird Al ones :)

palebluedot 03-10-02 09:43 PM

No concert DVD even comes close to Stevie Ray Vaughan - Live at El Mocambo.

Definitely buy the DVD...the sound quality is awesome (well, I've only listened to the DTS track). Plus, the extras are absolutely amazing...extra songs from MSG, an excellent hour long excerpt of a San Francisco radio broadcast of the "day after," commentary, and a 50 page book about Altamont. The package is definitely worth it.

some that haven't been mentioned yet:

Springsteen/E Street Band - Live in NYC
Roger Waters - In The Flesh
Eagles - Hell Freezes Over
The Who - Live At The Royal Albert Hall
Paul Simon - You're The One
Fleetwood Mac - The Dance

The Lusty Nun 03-11-02 01:38 PM

NIN: And All That Could Have Been
Phish: Bittersweet Motel
CC - Beastie Boys Anthology

Well, I only have one.

Global Underground 001: Transmission

It could have more musically. Focuses on interviews etc.

tofu 03-11-02 08:18 PM

all of the new bjork concert dvds are great

Bjork: Cambridge
Bjork: Live at Shepherd's Bush
Bjork: Unplugged (my favorite)

Joeboo835 03-12-02 06:13 AM

Another vote for NIN: All That Could Have Been.

The DTS is incredible. I had some friends over and one of them brought that DVD over. We cranked it in my theater and it sounded incredible. Video wise, it looked great, but wasn't widescreen.

I'm not a HUGE NIN fan either, I was just stunned by the audio of this DVD, especially because its a live concert

Butters 03-12-02 01:35 PM

Some of my favorites...

NIN - "And All That Could Have Been"
Eurythmics - "Peacetour" (stellar 16x9 enhanced presentation with 5.1 DD sound)
George Michael - "Ladies & Gentlemen" (5.1 DD remix of just about all of his videos)
Alice In Chains - "Unplugged"
Alice In Chains - "Music Bank" (5.1 DD video collection)

I second that. That performance just puts me in disbelief. That guy could play unlike anyone I have ever heard.

/ modiman.

maxfisher 03-15-02 08:03 AM

Well since nobody's mentioned my two favorites:
Pink Floyd - The Wall
U2 - Rattle and Hum (blows elevation out of the water IMO)

DJLinus 03-15-02 10:43 AM

In addition to some that have already been mentioned, I really like Moby's Play - the DVD. It has most of the videos from that album (strangely absent is the biggest hit - "South Side") that American MTV doesn't air (don't get me started on that issue). There's also live live performances, a home video of Moby goofing around and a cool 90 minute mix of remixes set to some trippy computer animation. Not a bad package.

Jack Straw 03-15-02 10:24 PM

Roger Waters "In The Flesh"
