Re: Hellboy -- reboot (2019, D: Neil Marshall) S: David Harbour

This thing has stinker written all over it.

Who is even clamoring for a new Hellboy anyway? They should've just made a third one with GDT, or left it alone altogether.

I'd be shocked if this turned out good, but stranger things, I guess...

Spoiler:
Do you see what I did there? Do you? "Stranger Things"... Banger of a reference. Just dynamite.

What's sad is this is the second time this franchise has screwed itself with a bad release date. It happened back in 2008 as well because The Golden Army was released like a week before The Dark Knight.

I had to turn my screen upside-down eleven times, but I finally got it.

Re: Hellboy -- reboot (2019, D: Neil Marshall) S: David Harbour

Here's my friend's review. It's spoiler-free, too.

https://weliveentertainment.com/weli...y-poor-reboot/

After a failed attempt by Guillermo del Toro to gather what was needed to complete his comic book trilogy and a lot of money invested by a new studio, we have the Hellboy reboot. It was hardly worth it. Despite goodwill and intentions, this is a disastrous new take on the Mike Mignola character almost fitting for a film that provides many glimpses at a possible doomsday. Even when separated from mixed feelings about restarting this story or the nature of an IP-driven movie industry, there’s still little to grasp onto as far as enjoying this action-horror-fantasy-comedy hybrid. The Hellboy character may have questions about whether he belongs in this world, but this movie certainly doesn’t.

Can we start campaigning for a Del Toro/Perlman Hellboy 3 that ignores this movie?

I would have even taken a Guillermo del Toro Hellboy 3 with David Harbour film.

Great, going to see it Tuesday. Mainly since it's part of the Regal see 4 Lionsgate movies get digital copies for free.
2 1/2 hours of suck? At least I had a free ticket on Atom to use for it.

Deadline is predicting a $12m opening weekend which is pretty damn terrible - they really should’ve gone with GDT and Hellboy 3.

Ha, so it’s performing the worst out of the three. At least Del Toro’s we’re fun.

Yup cruising for 3rd place

now with a third-place opening of $12.3M. That’s the lowest Hellboy opening through three pics, off 64% from the series previous opening high of $34.5M, when Universal made Hellboy II a piece of summer 2008 counter-programming.

Lions gate fucking sucks. This is a studio that wanted to make a jazz musical so they cast Ryan Gosling.

Of course, Universal mucked up Hellboy II by opening it a week before The Dark Knight. Fell 70.7% in its second weekend and placed #5 after TDK, Mamma Mia, Hancock (in its third weekend), Journey to the Center of the Earth (also in its second w/e), and only barely ahead of Wall-E in that movie's fourth weekend. Seems like October would've been ideal back then, with very little competition.

You're absolutely right. But at least by hiring people who will make an actual good film, you can make some money back with home video sales. If your movie is total dogshit, it doesn't really matter when you drop it.

Yes, but by opening it where they did, it prevented any movement on a third movie by GDT. But this rendition was a terrible idea from the start and LG only made it worse. Of course, at least they didn't spend $250M+ and bring in another director... Thanks Warner.

I love GDTs movies. Hellboy included.

Other than Dads death, I think this could have simply been a prequel.

If you like Neil Marshall’s movies this falls in line with them.

I didn’t read reviews. And enjoyed it. Nothing remarkable. But a nice Hellboy adventure.

Now i I see it is being trashed online.
