American Honey (D: Andrea Arnold) S: Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, Riley Keough

A teenage girl with nothing to lose joins a traveling magazine sales crew, and gets caught up in a whirlwind of hard partying, law bending and young love as she criss-crosses the Midwest with a band of misfits.

Shia was spotted in the city filming the flick. I might catch the movie just to see which areas make it on screen.

Sasha Lane - it sounds like a porn name. This is her first film.

Saw this the other night. Fantastic. Shia Labeouf and Sasha Lane were both terrific, which is sort of funny because one has been acting for almost 20 years and the other never acted before this film. The real standout for me though, was Riley Keough, who I had never really heard of before this film. Even in a secondary role she blew me away. I just assumed she was another non actor like everyone else, until I looked her up on IMDB, only to find out that not only is she accomplished actor, but is the Granddaughter of fucking ELVIS PRESLEY. That shocked me for some reason.

The film itself I would describe as a blend of Andrea Arnolds "Fish Tank" and Larry Clarks "Kids". It doesn't really have much of a plot, but its never boring.

4.5/5

I want to see this, but its almost 3 hours right? I'd rather watch this at home On Demand.

A couple local critics did not like the film. One gave it 2/5 while the other gave it 0/5. He called it one of the worse movies he's seen and was embarrassed some of the movie was filmed here. I usually dismiss his reviews so I don't put much weight to his statement. Seems to be getting decent reviews, so far.

Looks completely lame. Shia has never looked gayer.

I think there were some interesting ideas here, but this film did not need to be 2 hours and 40 minutes. Really becomes tedious by the end.

Some really good casting and performances here though.

I agree. 30-40 minutes could've easily been cut.

A realistic, gritty down to earth film that captures the ups and downs of young people trying to find themselves.

Rented this at the library. The affluent area of Kansas City did look familiar but not the motel they stay at.

Yes, as has been stated, they could've cut some out of this. There was some drawn-out "in the van" scenes and some duplication of stuff when they would hit each city. Riley was definitely the standout. Shia wasn't as annoying as expected. I was a little surprised to see Will Patton show up as one of the cowboys.

Finally got to see this. It was good. Didn’t realize the director went on to do Big Little Lies TV series.
