I keep seeing the trailers in the theater and I really think it looks funny. I hope Mel's rep doesn't hurt it...

The first movie sucked.
Get Hard and Anchorman 2 had more laughs and those movies were not the best comedies either.

The trailer for this was the first comedy trailer I've seen in years that made me laugh. Not enough to make me want to see the film in a theater, of course, but maybe on cable in a year or two. Never saw the first movie.

My daughter wanted to see this, so we went yesterday. I laughed more than I expected to. Nothing real creative, but at least I didn't regret seeing it. I had never seen the first film.

I enjoyed the first movie. This one not so much.
Some of the laughs are recycled from the first movie, most of the laughs are shown in the trailers and there are some exceptionally corny parts in it that will make you groan.
If you liked the first one, wait and rent this. If you hated the first one, stay far, far away.
My rating: 2.5 out of 5 stars

Was thinking that had The Orchard not cancelled the release of the similarly named Louis C.K. movie "I Love You, Daddy", then "Daddy's Home 2" might have suffered some serious blow-back and avoidance due to the other's toxicity and confusion between the two movie's titles for those not paying attention.

Saw it yesterday and Mel was great in it. Good to see him again.
Since the older moms in Bad Moms 2, and the older dads here are both going to Vegas for NYE, I now want a mash-up sequel that will never happen.

Re: Daddy's Home 2 (2017, D: Anders) Ferrell, Wahlberg, Gibson, Lithgow, Cardellini,
Saw this tonight. Let's just say the trailers showed most of the funnier scenes.
It was very very cheesy and sometimes cringe-worthy. But, overall, it tried to give a positive message about the Holidays and family, so I appreciated that. It felt like a cheesy Hallmark or Freeform Holiday movie at times.
I will say as a few have mentioned that Mel Gibson was definitely the highlight. He really looked like he was having a blast. He and Wahlberg had good one on one banter.
Saw it with Movie Pass. Definitely not something I would have paid full price for.
Only see this if you're a fan of Ferrell or Mel Gibson doing comedy.

Not as cringe-worthy as A Bad Mom's Christmas and at least got a couple chuckles out me, but still an utter waste of talent. Will say Mel Gibson seemed to be having a great time so it did make the humorless moments pass by.

Re: Daddy's Home 2 (2017, D: Anders) Ferrell, Wahlberg, Gibson, Lithgow, Cardellini,
From my review page ORBI-WAN GOES TO THE MOVIES:
Orbi-Wan Makes A Confession: In the past few days, I've watched both of the "Daddy's Home" movies (starring Will Ferrell, Mark Wahlberg, and Linda Cardellini). The plot of the first is pretty basic - a uber-nice but slightly naive step-dad Brad (Ferrell) is threatened when his step-children's rough-and-tumble biological father Dusty (Wahlberg) wants to re-enter their lives. After a lot of very funny slapstick conflict, some occasional but surprisingly mild crudity, just a bit of PG level language and eventually a better understanding of where each other are coming from, the two dads become fast friends and resolve to create the best life possible for the kids.
The sequel, set at Christmas-time, introduces each of the dad's own fathers (John Lithgow and Mel Gibson). As expected, the apples don't all far from the tree, as Lithgow is a chatty, retired postal worker and loving grandpa, and Gibson is a retired hot-shot shuttle pilot, but an absentee dad. The entire family is attempting to have their very first "full family" Christmas, including Dusty's new wife and step-daughter. Again, with slapstick worthy of a Chevy Chase Vacation movie, some surprisingly mild crudity, a smattering of PG language, and an eventual appreciation of each other, the combined family units learn that they all really do love each other.
I have to be honest, I did NOT expect these two movies to be as funny and entertaining as they were, nor to be as sweet and warm-hearting as they were. Also, I will admit - I laughed so hard during the first 30 minutes of the second one, I thought I was going to pass out. And if you are not grinning ear-to-ear as the cast is singing "Do They Know It's Christmastime" at the end of Daddy's Home 2, check your pulse...
These movies are nothing but silly, family-affirming fun, but that's all they need to be.
Daddy's Home is available on Amazon Prime and other digital streaming platforms. Daddy's Home 2 is available at Redbox, and on digital streaming platforms.
