A very solid 4/5. Highly entertaining. I agree with the points Draven made. I went to an IMAX showing and the usual IMAX intro was replaced with one with a MI theme. Pretty cool.
Biggest disappointment? The trailer had a butt-shot of Rebecca coming out of the pool. That didn't make it the movie

I really enjoyed this too... Rebecca was really good. I liked her a lot on the White Queen, so it was nice to see her on here. Like someone mention Im glad they didnt make her a romantic option for Tom.... they had great chemistry.
I can't wait for the BD, now.

Thought it was a solid follow-up to Ghost Protocol. I think I liked that one a bit more but this was very good as well. Cruise always brings it and I really enjoyed Rebecca Ferguson. I also enjoyed that she didn't really have a romantic relationship with Cruise's character. And I really liked the "anti-IMF" angle. That was something new for the series.
I wish Jeremy Renner had gotten a little time to kick some ass and Ving Rhames was sort of wasted but it was nice to have him back. And I actually kind of liked that there wasn't some big knock-down drag-out fight at the end.

I agree. I wish they gave Renner/Brandt more to do on the action end instead of being a Washington suit for the most part.
I was fine with the way they used Luther. It wasn't a huge role for Rhames, but I think in the context of the film, it worked. Better than the tacked on cameo in Ghost Protocol.
Didn't they make a big deal about casting Zhang Jingchu during production of the film? Her role was pretty insignificant.

Really solid follow up to Ghost Protocol in my opinion. This series has managed to stay strong and with the exception of the second film gets better with each installment. Cruise can definitely still bring it and I liked that Simon Pegg had a pretty decent part in this film. I wasn't too bothered by Renner not doing a ton in this. I do sort of wish Rhames had a bit more but it sort of worked in the context of the film like mentioned.

Saw it...twice. Loved it. I think it was better than Ghost Protocol. I love the locations, the night time scenes, the fog. Felt much more spy thriller to me. Rebecca Ferguson is awesome. Would love to see her come back for the next one.

MI 1 - not bad, not great
MI 2 - awful
MI 3 - forgettable
MI 4 - really good
MI 5 - great
What I like about Cruise, more than most A-list actors, is that he really wants the audience to enjoy his movies.

MI 2 - GREAT!!!!
MI 3-5 - haven't seen them because John Woo didn't direct them.

Just saw an interview of McQuarrie on this installment. He said Cruise was more concerned with the stunts and action sequences. So they basically built all the stunts they would like to do first and then made a story around all these individual action sequences. Yup, the final product sure feels like it. (not that there is anything wrong with it)

Sounds like the traditional Bond-method of filmmaking! Find a cool location, a hot girl, or create a spectacular stunt and THEN write a script to feature it/her/it.
Will Mission Impossible ever exist without Cruise? I don't dislike him, but the concept of the show was to follow different teams with different actors. Last time out, the speculation was that Renner would be stepping in and Cruise would be bowing out.

that is my biggest gripe about this installment...it wasn't fresh anymore after the formula already established in previous, especially GP. but, i still really enjoyed it and can't wait for more. i never did realize that they are all really inextricably linked. through the opening "light it" sequence, to showing footage of the movie in the opening montage. really like that continuity...

Just saw it. The ending was abrupt. Bothered me that Cruise's "The other door!" line wan't even in the movie. And the double, triple, quadruple, quintuple, sextuple, septuble-crosses are really getting tiresome. But overall it was well-made and fun. I like seeing Pegg getting a bigger and bigger role with each installment. May watch the BD when it comes out.

What made the line funny for me in the trailer was that it was Hunt saying it while strapped to the friggin' plane.

These movies really started to improve when JJ Abrams came on as their producer. They actually started to focus upon the team aspect and not be a 100% Tom Cruise show (though he is still clearly the lead).
Saw it. Fun and entertaining, but feel this could now qualify as a superhero franchise. Loved the buddy action-comedy route they took for the first half with Cruise and Pegg. Are they planning on giving Rebecca Ferguson/Elsa a spin-off series or something of that nature? She got a lot more development than they average female character in this series.
