all of 'em
Now a new set of Ready Player One posters ups the ante when it comes to mashing up nostalgic movies from decades past. Each of the posters takes the film’s digital characters and places them on the poster of a beloved movie from the past. Back to the Future, The Breakfast Club, Beetlejuice, Blade Runner, The Goonies, Risky Business, and more posters were fully recreated with Ready Player One‘s game avatar characters from The OASIS.

^ I haven’t read the book. Are all those movies referenced in RP1?

I got the audio book last week and have listened to nearly the entire thing.
On,y have the last two chapters to go, about an hour of audio.
Not going to listen to the rest until I see the movie.
I love this book. It’s so much fUn. There are a handful of large characters that I don’t expect to see in the movie.
Especially near the end.
Looks like Iron Giant will be taking the place of a at least one.
I can’t wait to see this.
Wil Wheaton is the performer on the audio book and he’s ok.
A little too monotone though.

I personally thought Wil Wheaton did an excellent job on the audio book.

Small tip, don’t watch this when drunk. It was a bit too much for me. This is one of those movies you’ll be able to watch over and over and see something new every time. There’s also some fun pokes at previous Spielberg movies. Definitely didn’t expect to see this here at SXSW, but hell I enjoyed it.

Be wary, I skimmed some reviews, and many discuss some plot points in detail, that could definitely be considered spoilers. Even for readers of the books.

Yeah that Dread Central guy basically went the "I didn't like the movie, so fuck you." route.

I was already planning to see this in theaters but the more I read about this film the more excited I get. It feels like a movie that is poised to do well regardless of the RT score.
I have not read the book but most/all of the references in the film sound like they are from films I have seen growing up (born in 71) so this should be fun.

Read the book. It is a lot of fun and the references from the trailer look to be pretty different from a lot of the references in the book.

Now that I'm mostly sober...yeah, those who grew up as teens in the 80's (so us in the 40's now) will more than likely love this movie. Those from older generations will find this somewhat of a headache. Those from more recent generations will see some of it as nostalgic or retro, or something like that. The biggest difference from the book (this is not a spoiler) is that there's a lot more stuff in reality going on as well, as opposed to the book having most of the action in the Oasis. There's a lot more references that are visuals then what Cline has in the book. But for me, it was nice seeing Spielberg go back to what he does a lot better at IMO, and that's stories and action with kids for the most part.

I guess this trailer basically explains the entire plot and set up of the movie. I wonder if they were getting the impression that audiences had no idea what the movie was about, because for the most part I sure didn't

Ready Player One is among the rare films that Steven Spielberg has made without John Williams, but the score was written by another maestro he’s collaborated with as a producer — Back to the Future and Who Framed Roger Rabbit composer Alan Silvestri.

The main actor sure looks like Spielberg would have looked as a youth, if he was young now (as opposed to the early 1960s, when Spielberg would have been that age). I guess you can increase your longevity if you play your directorial cards right.

Though it does sound a little like The Last Starfighter soundtrack which gives you the 80s feels when you hear it so maybe Silvestri is aiming for a nostalgia feeling.

I am really getting a Roger Rabbit vibe from the previews in terms of you'll probably have to see it a few times to get all of the Easter eggs. I'm close to finishing the book and know there is no way they will be able to adapt it so the movie has the same effect, but the most recent trailer at least gives off a vibe that they've captured the spirit.

Somehow my theater will be showing this in 70 mm. Hadn’t heard anything about that in the media, but it should be fun.

Currently sitting at 78% on RT (35 fresh, 10 rotten). As long as the score holds around there, I'll probably take the family to see it since we haven't been to the movies this year yet.

One more week to go before I go to the movies again. Black Panther is the last film I saw in theaters on opening week and this film and Rampage are the only other films I have any interest to see in a fancy theater between now and Infinity War. Wait...unless Deadpool 2 comes out before Infinity War, which also goes on my list.
Otherwise, I am happy to wait for the 4K of Tomb Raider and Pacific Rim 2 as I have no itch to see these two films in a theater. On the other hand the more I see of Rampage the more interested I become in seeing what should be a loud dumb but fun film on the big screen.

Just saw a preview screening of this one. If you want a faithful adaptation of the book this isn't for you. It doesn't deviate as bad as some Spielberg adaptations ( Catch Me If You Can ) but it does....a lot. The narrative is still mostly in fact and it's fun & very fast paced. I hope it does well.
