As much as I want to call this stupid, offensive, and racist. It almost looks like a good satire, on how crazy political correctness has become in this country.

My wife wants to see it. I haven't made up my mind yet.
EDIT: I'll see it based on the "Tip Test" video alone.

But they cover it at least in other movies. Plus they like it when white people clap for Bill Murray in Wes Anderson movies.

Re: Dear White People (2014)
I caught this film last week. I wanted to love this film based upon the trailers and advertising material that the studio was pushing out, but I ended up thinking it was too heavy handed and preachy.
The problem with the film lies with its tone. Simien can't decide if the film should be a complete satire or a funny, but a serious look at race relations in our country and higher-education system. Most of the leads are unlikable (as it should be with any satire), but Simien focuses too much time on their own personal problems as if he's making an after school special than a riff on how our culture views black society. At times it feels like you're watching a comedic version of Higher Learning.
With that aside, there are some brilliant moments within the film which include a parody of The Birth of a Nation and a climax that involves a party that evokes one to "bring out their inner negro" ("Am I the only one that thinks this is fucked up?" utters one character). However, these moments are few and far between. With a little bit more focus and polish, this could've and should've been a home run.
Since this should be on Netflix sometime in Q2 2015, I'd wait to watch it then if only for the constant bashing on Tyler Perry.

It's a pretty good at satire at times, but I agree that the various subplots made this movie kind of a mixed bag. I didn't think it was preachy, because nothing said in it is any real secret about how racism is still alive and well. I thought Bamboozled did a better job with this kind of subject, but it was still worth seeing.

Rewatching this on EPIX right now and it's more entertaining than I remember, especially the second half. I think knowing how it turns out and having no expectation actually helps it.

The director watched too many Wes Anderson and Whit Stillman films. Felt more like School Daze when I was expecting something more like Do the Right Thing.

That chick from Project Greenlight produced this. Did you know that she has made over 17 films?

For anyone who enjoyed the film and weren't aware... there is a Netflix series based on this that premieres tomorrow. http://forum.dvdtalk.com/tv-talk/639...es-thread.html
