He is the leader in the books too, but he's more of a mentor figure. He's still a badass though.

Now I want to go read those books again.

And Wedge's wife and two daugthers were all pilots. I suppose they'll make up a new team of pilots but maybe they can have a young Wedge for a cameo.

PS: the Aftermath novel author is a SW newcomer Chuck Wendig and it takes place right after ROTJ. Out this Sept. I took a quick look at Heir to the Jedi and didn't like it particularly because it's first-person. Haven't gotten around to reading Luceno's Tarkin.

News today is they got Alexandre Desplat doing the score for Rogue One. Looks like they are serious about this movie.

Desplat, Djawadi and Giacchino are the only ones worthy to inherit the baton from John Williams. I have no problem with this.

As long as Zimmer, Elfman and Newton-Howard stay far, far away from the franchise.

So we won't be getting the classic Williams theme playing over the opening crawl? It won't seem like Star Wars without that. Hopefully, there will at least be an opening crawl.

I'm not sure if there will be crawls on the "non-Episode" films. If we do get crawls though, I would fully expect them to have the classic theme, regardless of who composes the rest of the music.

I'm guessing we won't get crawls but will still get the "A Long Time Ago..." title cards. We'll see.

I doubt there will be crawls... it'll probably just start like how The Clone Wars or Rebels starts.

Would be interesting if they went:
- LFL Logo
- A Long Time...
- Quick cut to action scene.
- THEN the SW Logo and opening crawl.

Guilty pleasure fan film Dark Redemption did something like this.

Well, Rebels is a bit different since it's a TV series and crawls would get kind of tedious for every episode (but then, so does any title sequence, I guess, when you're binge watching).

Many of the SW video games have had the crawl, so there is precedent for using it outside of the main series. I'd say these films need it more than the close sequels (2 and 3 of each trilogy) to set up what we're about to see.

I think it's sort of like the James Bond gun barrel opening, it's probably not a tradition that they want to break.

Agreed. Even the shitty NES video games have the crawl.

But this isn't an "official" entry in the saga, it's a stand-alone film. It would be like if the Bond makers went along with their idea for a Jinx film a few years back...would THAT movie have the gun barrel opening? Of course not.

The two live-action EWOK movies didn't have a crawl.

It may not be an "Episode" but it is officially a part of the new Star Wars canon. The CGI Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows are likewise an official part of the new canon. Just because they are stand-alone and not an "Episode" does not make them unofficial.

I mean it's not an official Chapter in the Saga. I realize it's canon.

Re: Star Wars: Rogue One (12/16/16, D: Gareth Edwards) S: Felicity Jones

May the force be with Ben Mendelsohn?

Sources tell Variety the “Bloodline” star has met for one of the lead roles in Disney and Lucasfilm’s Star Wars spinoff “Rogue One.” The pic stars “Theory of Everything” actress Felicity Jones.

It’s unknown whether Mendelsohn has received an offer but the Australian actor is someone execs are seriously considering for the film.

Garreth Edwards (“Godzilla”) will the Star Wars spinoff with plot details still under wraps.

“Rogue One” will hit theaters on Dec. 16, 2016.

After strong supporting turns in pics like “Animal Kingdom” and “Killing Them Softly,” Mendelsohn has recently shown his chops as a leading man with his critically acclaimed performance as Jack O’Connell’s father in the prison drama “Starred UP” as well as opposite Ryan Reynolds in “Mississippi Grind,” which recently premiered at Sundance.

Confirmed to be about stealing the first death stars plans! There was a trailer just shown at the celebration, but it's not streaming...

That's kind of hard one to tackle. We already know they fail. I hope they have a great script for that.

We "know they fail"? I'm pretty sure they succeed. That's what R2 was carrying in the first movie.
