Best Decade of Science Fiction
#27
DVD Talk Hall of Fame
Galaxy Quest is great! A hugely affection, funny, and exciting satire of Star Trek and fandom with a good heart. Wild Wild West....well, a few of the steampunk design elements are kind of interesting. Maybe.
Yeah, if the sci-fi genre isn't dead now, it feel increasingly less relevant when the future is already here. We all have tricorders as iPhones and GPS tracking, speculation seems less and less important. And the fact that what little intelligence the genre had was completely lobotomized post-Star Wars to the point where Transformers and Avatar now pass for a science-fiction films doesn't help either.

Re: Best Decade of Science Fiction
The great things about growing up in the early 60's were watching a lot of 50's sci-fi on tv. In L.A. there was a show called "Strange Tales of Science Fiction." My dad and I used to watch these movies named in the posts above every weekend.

Besides T2, 12 Monkeys, and The Matrix, 3 out my 4 favorite scifi movies along with Empire, the 90s also had the good parts of Star Trek TNG.
