12 is definitely disturbing and graphically violent. But that's the point. Duh.

Still need to see Philomena, only Best Picture nominee I have yet to see.

I hope to see American Hustle win big, it has in other awards ceremonies and the sweet tears of hatred were delicious.

Hope Dirty Wars wins Best Documentary though I see it as a long shot, love Jeremy Scahill and hope he gets some love from the Academy as well.

For those that want to catch up on Best Picture noms, I provided the link which lists locations for AMC theaters. Feel free to add any other theaters that you may know about.

Saturday Feb 22 - $30
12:00 Philomena
2:00 Dallas Buyers Club
4:15 The Wolf of Wall Street
8:15 12 Years a Slave

Saturday March 1 - $40
12:00 Nebraska
2:15 Captain Phillips
4:45 Her
7:55 American Hustle
10:30 Gravity

Saturday March 1 - $60
24-hour Marathon, all 9 films! Yikes.
4 of those movies are now at the second run theaters, Capt. Phillips, Gravity, Nebraska, Philomena. So if you don't want to shell out $40 see Capt. Phillips or Gravity I'd recommend that alternative.

I'm still picking a split with 12 Years wining Picture and Cuaron taking Director. But I have this bad feeling that Gravity is going to end up winning Picture on Sunday night. It's the safe pick.

THR is publishing five "honest ballots" from Academy voters leading up to Sunday. Can't link it now but they're on number three now, and it's interesting. There is one asshole who dismisses the animation category altogether, and a few of them abstained from fields they didn't understand.

Indeed. Quite a valid point about 12YAS not winning. And I'm actually very scared to see Nebraska all of a sudden.

Nebraska has a very bad beginning, I almost gave up on it but it got its shit together and wound up being very entertaining and engaging. (Note: I am not some New York elite like the article accuses, entertained by "real Americans". I wasn't laughing at these people nor did I felt superior to them).

It would be cool if Deadspin had bought a ballot like for the Baseball HOF, provided they could find someone who was tired of it and wouldn't mind having it stripped in the future.

I understand what he is saying. Comments from people prepared me for a different level of violence in 12 Years A Slave. I was expecting constant blood and brutality on the level of Schindler's List or Passion of the Christ. The horror and violence in 12 Years effects the viewer on an emotional and spiritual level.

Like, didn't Armond White criticize the movie for being "torture porn"? Other than one scene I wouldn't call the violence "graphic".

That's bizarre that you need a cable subscription to watch a free network show via streaming. I guess they were paid by the cable companies to do it, but why not sell it on its own for $5-10?

Why do you need to see a stream of this? It's on broadcast television.

Have you tried an OTA antenna? I know someone who lives out in the boonies and can't get cable. They use satellite on all tvs but one that's not used often. They use an antenna and the HD looks really good.
