For an old man Freeman manages to look surprisingly BAD ASS in that trailer.

No worries. I actually think this looks pretty cool; I'm one of the handful of people that liked Tron: Legacy. But I am seriously sick of seeing that first trailer.

Tron Legacy is pretty damn entertaining, the bluray looks and sounds incredible, Daft Punk made that movie

Agree 100% FWIW, while Avatar was a better movie overall, I had a much bigger blast watching Tron:Legacy in IMAX due mostly to that cool score playing in all its glory.

What's next? A movie called Fallout starring Nicolas Cage? Skyrim starring Tom Hanks? Pfft.

You do know that the game name is The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, not just Oblivian, right?

Also, there's already been a move called Fallout:

Re: Oblivion (2013, Dir. Kosinski, Starring Cruise)

I assume someone's made the WALL-E joke at this point? I'm not much of a fan of Cruise, but he does tend to hook up with interesting directors. I wasn't a huge fan of TRON: Legacy, but some of the aesthetics were interesting (apparently Joseph Kosinski was an architectural professor, so there's a kind of symmetry to all of the designs in that film). I'll probably go see it. Story looks humdrum from the trailer though, the usual "last resistance" on post-apocalyptic earth" stuff.

I really like the look of this, though I wasn't a fan of TRON: Legacy either. Chances are I will go see it in the theater, unless it bombs with reviews.

Speaking of trailers I'm sick of seeing -- Every movie I've seen recently has had that damn Hansel & Gretel trailer.

Listen: Title Track From M83's Score for the Tom Cruise Film Oblivion, Featuring Susanne Sundfør

M83's Anthony Gonzalez provided the score for the Tom Cruise-starring sci-fi film Oblivion. He's already shared the track "StarWaves". Now, here's the track "Oblivion", which features Norwegian singer Susanne Sundfør.

According to Rolling Stone, Gonzalez collaborated with Joseph Trapanese on the soundtrack; Trapanese previously collaborated with Daft Punk on the soundtrack to Tron: Legacy.

Oblivion is out April 19 with its soundtrack arriving April 9 via Back Lot Records.

They were going to make a Skyrim film, but then one of the producers took an arrow to the knee.

In all honesty, I don't think he had to do much on that film. The aesthetics and world was already created for him with the first film. All he had to do was bring it into the 21st century.

This meme burned out awhile ago, but I chuckled at this particular usage of it. Well done.

Re: Oblivion (2013, Dir. Kosinski, Starring Cruise)

For those of you who live near an IMAX theater, the IMAX release has been formatted in two ways.

For those who live near a 15/70 theater, you'll see the film in 1.33:1.
For those who live near a digital IMAX theater, you'll see the film in 1.78:1 (a la Skyfall).

Kosinski shot the film to take advantage of the multiple aspect ratios and the F65 allows the user to frame in all major aspect ratios. This make sense now as the film has been destined for IMAX since Universal announced the project.

So what is the optimum AR for the movie? Or isn't there one? It's safe to assume it will have a home release in 1.78:1. Confusing.

Sounds Tangerine Dream like to me. Probably intentional given that they did two Cruise movies in the 80s.

So is this movie going to be a hit? Didn't realize it comes out next week already.

I think it'll be "lukewarm", I didn't know it was due out next week either.

Movie companies really need to start advertising on Hulu Plus, because the only thing I miss from regular TV is occasional movie ads.

Doesn't sci-fi usually do pretty well, whether it's good or not, just because there is such a large fan base of the genre out there?

Nope. Sci-fi is a really tough sell actually.

Sunshine grossed $3.7m during it's full run in the US.
Lockout pulled $14.3m
In Time pulled $37.5m
Babylon A.D. did $22.5m
Children of Men did $35m
Ultraviolet $18m
Aeon Flux $25m
The Island $35.8m
Serenity pulled $25.5m

Tent pole Sci-fi does pretty well though (Star Trek, Star Wars, (I guess they fit here) Comic Book Movies, etc; ), but coming out with something that doesn't have a big following is tough.

Re: Oblivion (2013, Dir. Kosinski, Starring Cruise)

http://www.denofgeek.com/movies/obli...blivion-review

Positive review slight spoilers

Spoiler:

With a strong performance from Cruise, a great supporting cast, including Morgan Freeman in a brief yet important role, an effective (if occasionally exposition-heavy) script, and some captivating special effects, Oblivion's one of this year's first major multiplex surprises.

Although its standalone status makes it less of an obvious box-office draw than, say, Star Trek Into Darkness or Iron Man 3, Oblivion's a smart, engrossing movie, and deserves to be seen on the largest screen you can find.
