At least the redo of Halloween makes sense. The '78 movie was a blockbuster when it was released and one of if not THE greatest modern horror film ever made. I hated that they re-made it ... but I understand why.
Hellraiser, eh notsomuch. Poor box office earnings when it was released in '87. Current earnings are paltry and an appeal to only Clive Barker/Hellraiser fans (do they even exist today?). Doesnt even qualify as a successful cult 'hit'. Sequals were horrible across the board and Clive Barker stopped being relevant to the genre more than a decade ago.
I remember watching this in '87 and being shocked but uninterested. It was new and different then. But I never watched it again. Other than the shock value the story was forgettable same with the characters.
Today ... whoop de do, another repackaged-gross-out-porno-flick pimped to the masses for the quick buck. YAWN.

Clive briefly touched on this subject in a recent interview with IGN:
"Hellraiser, as it is, is fine. It's being remade. I will, perhaps, have something to do with that. Maybe some producorial capacity, but it won't be any hands-on kind of thing. I like spending my time working with people who are comrades. Hollywood is a two-faced world. I'm fed up with it. I want to make work that works. And if I'm going to work outside of this - and by that I mean the writing that I do - I've got to have the freedoms that this gives me, that the writing provides Otherwise, why do it?"

Ugh, part of the charm and creepiness of the original comes from the fact that the original didn't have a huge budget or anything like that. What we'll get with this remake is an over-the-top, "slick" production, and as a result it wont be anywhere near as creepy as the original version.

The original Halloween is pretty much my favorite horror flick ever, so when I heard about a remake I said that I'd definitely check out the remake, and I did just that.
And it was horrible on an entirely new level of awful.
A Hellraiser remake will be grouped in with the Halloween remake, and other such atrocities, and not with the pretty good remakes like Dawn of the dead. That one was very much something of a rarity.

The only one I enjoyed was the third one. I don't understand remaking this without Bradley. It would be like remaking Nightmare on Elm Street with a new Freddy. Hopefully the remake is evil as hell and feels satanic. I'm not a big fan of the series but that tone is what I felt made it stand out from all the other horror franchises.

I bet it's already in the planning stages. Now if you want to bet that we'll see it on the big screen within the next two years, then you're on to something. I heard a rumble about a remake of that series not too long ago already. Within the last year I heard that someone was interested in doing it.

I'm slow. After seeing the French horror film "Inside" I had nothing but faith that Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury would make this project awesome.
Looks like they have been off the project since April 08' and that the Weinsteins are looking at Pascal Laugier to direct the remake.

So I guess they're really hoping to get a Frenchman at the helm here. Considering they're putting out some of the best horror right now, I don't blame them. I'm dying to see Martyrs. Inside was good, and well-shot, but some of the story elements were a bit far-fetched.

Inside might have had a slight far-fetched story, but it was a quick romp through excessive gore and tension. Better than alot of shit that Hollywood is considering 'horror'
