fight club questions (contains spoilers without tags)

just watched the movie today, and have a few questions
i noticed very early on that there are several flashes here and there. is it a problem or are those supposed to be something.
when Tyler mentions all of the rules of fight club, one of the rules is "all competitors that fight must be shirtless", but when Bob (meat loaf), fights there, his shirt is on, why?
at the end of the movie, the narrator shoots himself in the mouth with a gun, so i guess he could kill the image of Tyler, but how does he live? i would think that a bullet through the mouth would kill instantly.

Do we need to see Bob's bitch tits? Plus I think it would be an unfair disadvantge for Bob to have his breasts bouncing around.

It didn't hit his brain at all, bounced off his jaw actually, check the slow mo. He certainly will lose a lot of blood. Also, it's just a movie.

1) You apparently didn't watch the movie well enough. Go watch it again.

2) It was in everyone's best interests to hide the bitch tits. As long as his opponent agreed, the rules were waived.

3) A cheek is nothing but tissue. Piercing it is no big deal. The only question would be the gas dynamics of a gun firing into an enclosed space ... I think it would be quite survivable.

so in order for me to see the subliminal "penis" shots, i would have to do a slow mo on the dvd i guess? also, all movie rules that i know of is that if you are shot through the mouth in any way, they die.

Actually, no. They are incredibly easy to see and fully discern at regular speed with the naked eye. And only one of them is a penis.

Wow rypro.. really.. wow. the questions are already answered. I would have thought by now everyone would have been through fight club.

Even in my first viewing I saw tyler in the flashes. Just so you know, the penis at the end is suppose to be there. No one spliced a porn into the dvd while you weren't looking

Movie rules also state that if you are the hero of the film you can take a bullet or two while the bad guys can't.

i did here his conversation about what he does (splices bits of porn into family movies since he is a projectionist at a movie theater. btw, which of the commentaries are best to listen to, since i might listen to one of them tonight.

To expand on Rypro's answer, you have to accept that a lot of Tyler's teachings do make some sense. The Narrator had to do something amazing and mind-blowing (without blowing his mind out), similar to the acid burn scene where he teaches him to accept the pain. Inflicting that much pain upon himself and living proved to himself that he didn't need an alternate persona to be what he wanted to be. From then on, he can be tough if he needs to be, but he doesn't have to be a psycho.

As for Bob's bitch tits, I think one of the commentaries mentions them creating a "tit suit" that looked decent, but they figured it was just better to leave his shirt on. I can picture Bob starting to take off his shirt and all the other guys going "woah there fella! TMI!"

And I caught the flashes the first time. They're fairly obvious.

Basically, yes. When Norton's character (his name isn't Jack) pulled the trigger, he had made the conscious decision to destroy himself as well as Tyler. So in his mind, he did kill Tyler. And since Tyler was only real in his mind, that's all that mattered.

I first saw the film in the theatre and I only caught the middle two subliminal Tyler instances. I remember thinking "WTF was that??"

The "subliminal" penis at the end of the film was hard to miss though.

after swatching vol 1 again a few days ago, it is fairly obvious in that volume even.

oh and i did watch the commentary for about 30 min (was tired), and it was still hard to tell what was in the blips. maybe the transfer is a bit dark, or maybe i need to watch the movie when not tired. (oh and who ever posted the screencaps above, can you post the actual subliminal images linked)
