Wood was a surreal character: self-deluded, eternally optimistic---and a heterosexual who enjoyed wearing women's clothing. He's become a cult icon thanks to the unintended humor of his schlock classics “Glen or Glenda?” (1952) and “Plan 9 from Outer Space” (1959).
Tim Burton's 1994 biopic captures the contradictions in Wood's life and work, and centers on the director's more productive Hollywood years, when he worked with horror star Bela Lugosi (Academy Award winner Martin Landau). Dolores: Sarah Jessica Parker. Kathy: Patricia Arquette.
