I don’t always like Soderbergh’s movies, but I admire his willingness to take risks. A lot of people thought Oceans 11 would suck; it didn’t. I think too many people over react to the mere announcement of a movie---especially sequels and remakes. Oceans 12 may or may not succeed; I’m going to keep an open mind until I see it.

I can understand why it's not liked in this forum:

1. It made money.

2. It's an American film.

3. It's in color.

4. It's in English

If making 'Oceans 12' means he can raise money for another 'Solaris' or 'Schizopolis' then I'm ok with that.

Maybe…but the following seem more likely. ;-)

5) No rap stars
4) No overbearing hip-hop or metal soundtrack
3) Not enough explosions/No car chases (take your pick)
2) Insufficient babe du jour nudity/Julia Roberts (take your pick)
1) It’s a Remake for cryin’ out loud

I'd personally love to see a sequel. It was a fun movie.

Ocean's 11 is flaky, but harmless. My dissatisfaction came from all the smirking egos "having fun" on the screen. It would have been nice if someone put an effort into their respective roles. Sure it may be cute and even effective meted out appropiately, but all that posturing just made the movie a mess.

And I have no reason to believe the sequel will fix this problem. I'm sure I'll see it. Heist movies will always appeal to me (for at least one viewing).

First one was great, one of my favorites of the year. I love these group caper movies A sequel should be fun. I like these type of films better then Solaris.

I liked the first one. I'll most likely see the second. I like to enjoy a good flick.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Traffic as his best yet.

I think sundog nailed it on why it gets bashed. The movie was very much improvised, it was a bunch of stars having fun being in a little fun movie. I liked the movie but Soderbergh is capable of doing more than just hanging out with movie stars.

Ocean's 11 "actors having fun on the screen" is still tons more enjoyable than most other features, especially other features where the actors have "tons of fun together."

Charlie's Angels II was all about the trio of gal pals having tons of fun. I mean, that's almost how they advertised for it. And we all know how that ended up.

A scene in Bad Boys II comes to mind, also (Lawrence and Smith harass some young kid taking Lawrence's daughter on a date). Personally, I thought the scene was excruciating. Not excruciatingly funny--just plain awful. Some people, however, loved that scene and thought it was hilarious. To each their own, I suppose.

So while I'm not for all of the "the actors just had fun making it" kind of movies, I can make some exceptions. Ocean's 12 will be one of them.

I second Taratino that Traffic is his best film yet. For me, the only misstep Soderbergh has taken in the last 5 years is Full Frontal. I loved Out of Sight, Limey, Ocean's Eleven, Erin Brockovich, and yes, Solaris.

I'm the only one in my group of friends that like Solaris. The others thought it was boring and pretentious. Whatever.

I'm looking forward to Ocean's 12. I wonder who the 12th thief will be.

Heard about this a while back and I simply can't wait. I loved the first; thought it was a real fun and enjoyable film. Wasting talent? Not at all. .

they need to make the 12th a hot babe. Julia Roberts just doesn't cut it looks wise. They need some more estrogen in the movie, a little eye candy if you will. I mean if the chicks get to look at Pitt, Clooney, Garcia and Damon for 2 hours surely the guys could get someone better to look at than Roberts.

I don't think there is a problem with a bunch of stars acting lightly and having fun. It isn't like this is the next Citizen Kane. I'd much rather see them having fun then seeing them just going through the motions (ala Ed Norton in the Italian Job).

Isn't Ocean's 12 being made by Soderbergh and Clooney's prodcution company, the same one that did Solaris? I think that's right. I would think they would need to make an Ocean's 12 so they keep on making films like Solaris. I see nothing wrong with that, especially since Ocean's 11 was one of the VERY few big budget hollywood movies that I found endlessly entertaining.

oh man! oceans 11 is my favorite movie ever! (the remake, not the original). i hope this rules as much as the first did although i doubt it will. after seeing bad boys 2 compared to the first (which i also loved) my expectations for sequels went down a lot.
