thankfully I have an Amazon credit card so all my accrued points I can apply all these sets to. (minus the Bond box which I'm hoping the less expensive UK set is region free)

Don't forget the Indiana Jones set.

I think as we get closer to the release, this set might be had for at least $99.99.

When Universal announced their 100 Year anniversary earlier this year, 13 films were getting restorations. Dracula, Spanish Dracula, Frankenstein and Bride were 4 of the films.

Day One purchase for me as well.

This is much more than I was anticipating from early reports! Sales need to be good to initiate further HD releases, and there are so many more Universal Monster films I'd love to see on blu-ray: Son of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, Dracula's Daughter, The Black Cat, The Raven, Frankenstein Vs. The Wolf Man, Abbott & Costello Meet the Killer Boris Karloff, etc. etc. etc.

Yep, this set needs to see some decent numbers if we will have any chance of getting more of these type of movies coming to Blu-ray. If this shows there's a market for it, we'll get more. I just don't know if enough of these will get sold. Assuming I'll be employed by then, I'll do my part and drop $100 for it.

Were the sequels ever released on DVD outside of the Legacy sets? I recall seeing a double feature of Dracula's Daughter/Son of Dracula on eBay a few times, but I don't remember seeing any of the other sequels on DVD.

Yes, there were a number of double feature sets. Ghost of Frankenstein / Son of Frankenstein; Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman / House of Frankenstein; the various Mummy sequels. Also, in addition to Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, Abbott and Costello Meet the Mummy made it to an individual release.

No interest. Maybe the first two individually at $9.99.

I'm not buying the set anytime soon. $150 or $110 or whatever is too much to shell out at one time. Besides I don't like a couple of the movies in the set. So it doesn't make sense to buy the whole set anyway. But I would get the ones that I do like individually. If they would be offered that way.

But for some who get paid every two weeks - August is a three paycheck month.

Now how about a Val Lewton Blu-Ray Collection to go with it? Man that would excite me even more than the Universal monsters!

That would be my all-time #1 box set upgrade, but a risky venture for WB. Hopefully if the Monsters set does well enough, it'll show the other studios that there is a market for these kinds of releases. That's a big if though.

I'm sure it'll include the Spanish Dracula - it's being counted as an extra on the Dracula disc, so perhaps that's why it's not mentioned. Why are UK box sets always so much cheaper?

I think UK isn't as big on home media buying, so prices are low to entice people into buying. That's what I remember reading somewhere.

EDIT: At that price I'm definitely getting the UK set.

I tried to get my daughter into Monster High for that very reason.... so she might eventual have a better appreciation of the classics if she had something to compare it to. She likes MH, but not to the extent I was hoping.

As far as this release... it is turning out to be a great fall on Blu-ray for horror fans.

if that's the case, remind me...how much was the Battle Royale set going for in the UK? Was (well to me) pretty cheap in dollars.

I paid, once all was said and done, $25 from Amazon.co.uk.

Regardless, I only paid $19 for the four-disc American set.

Any ideas on whether the UK set will be region free?

While I have the ability to play multiple region DVD's and blu-ray's, and actually own many non-region 1 DVD's, I prefer to only purchase region A and region-free blu-rays at this time.

No idea personally, but I remember someone asking about the Hitchcock set and someone else replied most Universal titles are region-free.
