The problem is heart is pluralised and there's only one heart in that picture.

^Are they sticklers for that? it certainly seems more suited to Desert Hearts than Wild at Heart.

No problem at all...

"Desert Hearts has been digitally restored by The Criterion Collection/Janus Films and UCLA Film & Television Archive in conjunction with Outfest UCLA Legacy Project and Sundance Institute."

Yeah, I can't figure out what a cactus would have to do with Wild at Heart.

Well that answers that question.

Criterion are usually good with the pluralisation in their hints. I guess they missed it this time. I wasn't sure it was Wild at Heart either though, because the cactus didn't make sense.

In any case, I don't see many interested in this title and I'm surprised Criterion would release it. Wild at Heart would've been up Criterions alley more - even if it's not something I'd be excited about either.

But two cacti that happen to make one heart.

Desert Hearts is what came to my mind when I saw it, too.

Artsy, slowly paced, ponderous, thought-provoking, philosophical, symbolic. I don't think there's any dialogue until about 10 minutes in.

Huh. Sounds interesting. Not sure if I've seen many of those. Anything recent, foreign or domestic you can equate to? Would you recommend as blind buy? I do like the sound of the post-apocalyptic setting even if it isn't Mad Max

Stalker is a fucking masterpiece. If you're interested I suggest you watch other Tarkovsky like Solaris and then decide.

Oh, I did see Solaris. I liked it, liked it a lot I believe. Did not love the Clooney remake. Is the original streaming anywhere?

Filmstruck has exclusive streaming rights to the Criterion Collection.

Then again, the same description also applies to Mad Max.

Which is really the approach everyone should take nowadays. There's really little reason to blind-buy anything today.

You have to give him credit though, he's pretty consistent on what he asks or does...

I wouldn't recommend it as a blind buy, it's even less accessible than something like Solaris. I think you can find it on youtube if you want to watch it before purchasing.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

In for Rebecca and Certain Women.

Love Reichardt. I own all of her films except for her debut, River of Grass, which I've never seen. But intend of purchasing blind.

Certain Women was a hard one to grade though. The segment with Michelle Williams was bland and utterly useless. I can't think of a single reason to justify its existence. It was awful. I'd rate it 2.5/5. The Laura Dern segment was very good, very compelling. Laura Dern gives a great performance as usual. I give it a solid 4/5. The segment with Kristen Stewart and Lily Gladstone is the best piece of filmmaking I've seen in a good 5-6 years. It was breathtaking, poignant and utterly heartbreaking. An easy 5/5. Even though I like the Laura Dern segment quite a bit, I just wish there was a way they could have stretched the Lily/Kristen segment into like a 75 minute feature.

So its kind of hard to rate the entire film as a whole. Its a definite purchase for me. But its sort of a fractured film. Its a shame they couldn't have done something better with Michelle Williams.
