Ouch, 799 euros converts to over $1,000 USD.

I cannot wait for a Blu-Ray burner to be affordable, I'd pick one up in a heartbeat.

They are SL. TDK says they will have DL discs later this year for $48 (BD-R) and $60 (BD-RE).

DL would be 60 gig? That's gonna be very cool once the price of the media comes down.

So will this drive even record DL discs? It looks like not from:

BD-R (SL) 2x, 4x CLV
BD-RE (SL) 2x CLV

Hopefully the prices come down soon. I want a BD-R drive badly, but I cannot pay anything close to the current prices. Maybe in a year...

But just think of all the money I will make burning Blue Ray Movies to these and selling them like originals for $19.99.

The secret is volume.

The best price I've seen for BD-R 25 is about $15.90 though I think there may be cheaper out there. About 3/4 of the way down the page.

Using current exchange rates, the price at that site is actually a bit over $18, which isn't bad, at least for people in the UK. But after factoring in shipping to the US, I don't think it would be all that cheap for people on this side of the pond. The best price I have found from any dealer in the US is around $20/disc + shipping for BD-R, and $25 for BD-RE.

You're forgetting to take off the VAT which makes the price around $15.90 at current exchange rates. Of course shipping will add to the price, but then so will the cost of petrol to go and pick discs up in stores. In the end it always seems to be a decent deal to order online, just so long as you do it in bulk.

Well, I don't want to get into a "what constitutes the real price" debate, but if you have to pay the VAT, then it's part of the price as far as I am concerned. And, while it is usually better to order online (don't remember where I claimed otherwise), paying transatlantic international shipping charges generally cancels out that cost benefit.

Meh, plenty of forum members seem to order from Amazon.co.uk with no serious complaints. When I've ordered from Canada or the US there's never been any issue, particularly when there's any sort of volume involved. VAT is taken off for non UK residents, so that's why I listed the appropriate $ price.
