I think I'm going with a British theme. I have quite a bit of English movies and TV shows to watch so that will work out well.

I think I'm gonna start my challenge early. There is just so many choices, I can't wait till the first. I even signed up for Sling TV, to supplement Dish. Among other things, I get HBO now, with every episode of Game of Thrones available on demand. Watching the first episode now. This also gives me cable on a second TV.

I haven't quite settled on a theme for the challenge. I'm leaning toward something fairly simple, and my two main thoughts are to watch foreign (non-US) films or 90s films. The first year I participated, I focused on films adapted from other source materials and films about writers and the writing process. That might be a fun, simple topic to revisit. I also thought it might be fun to spend the week finishing movie box sets that I've started. Hopefully, I'll have something sorted out by the 1st!

I have a some ideas I've been thinking about but haven't decided yet. The one currently in the lead is to focus on Hollywood poverty row films. I also have been thinking about picking one of the Mill Creek collections I have and working my way through that, probably Suspense, Musicals or Comedy. Of course I do have lots of unwatched Asian TV and British TV. This is always a last minute decision for me.

I always wait till I start watching stuff in May to see where the zeitgeist leads me before seeing what patterns emerge clearly enough to craft a challenge out of.

Also going with a music theme for the challenge. Have a lot of unwatched BDs/DVDs (musicals, rock concerts, etc.) that are begging to be opened, plus have others I may revisit.

I think I'm gonna settle for a Spy month. It's either that or sports movies.

For people doing a music challenge, if you have a Roku, there is a channel dedicated to concerts and music documentaries called Qello Concerts. There is a free 7 day trial, and after that it is $4.99 a month.

I stunk at the B-Movie challenge, so I hope to do good this one. Splitting it into 2 challenges: 1st half of the month, clean my hard drive(Hoping for 50gs cleaned). Second half will be wrestling... 100 Matches. If I cross over, I can acrue time for the other challenge... i.e If I watch a wrestling show on my dvr in the first half of the month, I can use that time to watch somehting off my DVR in the second half. My challenge, my rules.

I just collected all but one of Rachel McAdams movies, so I'm going to do:

The Films Of Rachel McAdams (Minus One)

The one I didn't get is My Name Is Tanino. The only copies I could find were on eBay from Italian sellers. They cost too much to buy and they cost too much to ship and I don't think I could play it anyway so I didn't get it.

My Past "May Make-Your-Own" Challenges:
Universal Horror (2010) Total 41 (Didn't track FTVs)
The Many Mini-Marathon Challenge (2011) Total 118 (Didn't track FTVs)
Mill Creek's 50 Classic Musicals Challenge (2012) Total 50 (47 FTVs)
The Films Of Woody Allen (2013) Total 58 (10 FTVs)
The Original And It's Remake(s) (2014) Total 68 (16 FTVs)

I couldn't wait till the first, so I started a pre challenge list. I'm extremely depressed today, so want to watch what I enjoy.

It doesn't have to be "pre-challenge." You make the rules for your challenge, including the start and end times.

The guidelines just ask that you "please try to do [your challenge] near those dates" (May 1 through May 31), and there's no reason you can't overlap your MYOC with the current Drive-In Challenge if you want.

Cool beans. Then my challenge has officially started then.

I was thinking I couldn't start my John Ford Challenge early and overlap with the Drive-In Challenge, but then I remembered he's credited with co-directing Sex Hygiene (1942) during WW2. Looks like I won't even have to dig my copy out, I can watch it on Archive.org, so I'll join you in starting "early" (although I'm not looking forward to seeing the graphic medical scenes in that film again).

I've been excitedly awaiting this challenge since the beginning of the year! I'm doing "ONE DEGREE OF GYLLENHAAL", where anything associated with one of the Gyllenhaal family qualifies... That includes episodes of The Electric Company, if I can find any (produced by Jake and Maggie's mom, Naomi Foner). I've also been holding out watching my Blu-ray of The Nightcrawler (one of my favorites from last year). I can stream Maggie's new TV series, The Honorable Woman, available for streaming from Shomi (I think).

Now, it IS possible that what I am describing is really ZERO DEGREES OF GYLLENHAAL. If that is the case, it will allow me to branch out if I run out of stuff to watch to be truly ONE DEGREE by watching stuff by people who have been directly involved in projects with the Gyllenhaals in the past.

It's going to be a fun month!

That's an awesome idea! I loved Nightcrawler so much and want to watch The Honorable Woman at some point.

I've decided to go with the foreign film challenge. I'm still fiddling with the rules regarding United States funding of films. There are a lot of joint UK-US productions that would be fun to watch. However, keeping US production out of the process still leaves me a huge pile of unwatched films to see.

Fun idea! Zero degrees of Baldwin might not work as well.

And it definitely sounds like zero to me.

Gonna keep it simple and do a Gangsters challenge. Mainly because I want to re-watch The Sopranos.

I also need to watch Season 7 of Sons of Anarchy. I'm gonna include the Sons. I know they are a motorcycle club, but let's be honest...

While I won't be able to watch the PPV fight on Saturday, I just caught a classic Pacquiao fight on Dish Studio. It was Pacquiao vs Bradley II. Even though I knew who would win, it was still an exciting fight.
