This might be obvious to some, but I'm new to this whole home theater thing. Is higher gauge speaker wire, such as 24, better to use than a lower gauge, such as 18? Appriciate any help with this. Keep up the great work on this forum.

Contrary to logic, the higher the wire guage, the thinner it is. For longer runs (like to your rear speakers) it's best to use 12 AWG or thicker. For your mains, 12-16 will be fine. 18 is really too thin for good signal transfer.

Hi and welcome to the forums. When talking speaker wire, generally bigger is better. I use 14awg on all my drivers with the exception of the subs, which have 12awg.
