Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I'm tempted by some of the IDW stuff.

Are there any TMNT fans or MLP fans that could tell me what of the current stuff you'd recommend? Do the main series fall off in quality? Are any of the mini-series or additional series must read stuff?

Thanks!

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I think the IDW TMNT is fantastic. It's a fun series that also mixes in some real, heartfelt drama. I read via trades, so I'm not completely up to date, but I will say that the story builds and builds from the very first issue. Everything matters, including all of the mini series. Issue #50 is the culmination of those first few years and even if the series eventually loses steam, those first 50 (more like 80 if you include all the tie ins) will be something I will continue to revisit down the road.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I had a bunch of the $0.98 Eurocomics in my cart and was checking out, then I went back to check one more title. When I went back to my cart, they had all flipped back to normal price because it was after 8 p.m. Pacific. I did get some of the IDW titles, though, including a couple with the stacked horror discount.

Spider-Man Masterworks for $3.99. I might get all of these.

Wonder Woman through 10/24--I'm tempted to get a bunch of these too.
https://www.comixology.com/comics-sa...d=13561&lang=1

Also a Jodorowsky sale that reminds me that I bought the first Incal volume on sale but haven't read it.

Too convoluted for me. They start referencing those crappy micro-series on every other page and it's annoying as shit.

Their Transformers stuff has the same problems.

Well, the micro series are definitely not crappy, but you do have to consider them as issues in the regular series, which can be annoying. Even then, if you have singles you can easily find the reading order online. If you read the trades, you can pretty much read them in the order they were released. The best option is the deluxe hardcovers which just collect everything in order.

Im trying to resist. I can't stand reading Stan Lee anymore, but the art and history of it all make we want to own them, and such a low price.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Does anyone use Comixology on a Amazon Fire tablet? I've been thinking of picking up the new 8" Fire tablet, but I'm not sure how the comics will display on the screen.

I used Comixology on the big Fire and an iPad Air 2 and I can't tell any major differences. Clean clear images on both.

I am interested in the God is Dead series since I found out about it via the Comixology sale. Is it worth the plunge?

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Archie Halloween sale means I can finally pick up the Sabrina series after deciding I didn't need a physical copy. I've reached sort of a turning point in that I was planning to get the new Son of Satan TPB but decided I didn't need the clutter considering the digital version is the same price. I'll continue to get some omniboo and epics, but the balance has shifted for me.

Thanks to David and everyone else for the updates! I'm not reading this month, but I'm certainly adding to my backlog.

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

Note that the Doctor Strange Masterworks is $2.99 on Amazon instead of $3.99 on Comixology (hard to find; use link https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BL1E3MM). Amazon lists fewer pages but it was matched up in Comixology so I assume that's a data error. The recent Dr Strange Epic is not included in the sale, but Amazon has it for $14.49 compared to Comixology's regular price of $24.99. Also, I had resisted buying the classic Son of Satan in TPB, but that's down to $11.99 on Amazon ($19.99 Comixology; $29 Amazon TPB) so I pulled the trigger.

Dynamite continues to run a number of 'stealth' bundle deals, currently there are 2:
$19.99 54 issue Battlestar Galactica bundle (82% off): https://www.comixology.com/Battlesta...le/bundle/1519
$29.99 75 issue 'British Character/Writer' bundle (82% off; Garth Ennis, James Bond, Sherlock H, Uncanny, etc): https://www.comixology.com/Dynamite-...rs/bundle/1509

I was about to come here to post the same thing.

These bundles are frustrating, as I own around half of each, making them sort of worth buying, but not really. If I could go back in time, I'd buy nothing except $3.99 Marvel collections, and 60% off or higher bundles. Hate seeing those "lost" savings.....

Re: Digital Comic Book Discussion and Deals (Comixology, etc)

I have a couple of the BSG TPBs so I'd be in for that bundle.

The British one looks good too, but it's 50% more expensive, and it'd be all blind buys (aside from the characters, of course). These usually last a few days?
