If your familiar with Luis Bunuel's other films you'll love this. Very surrealistic. Directors, IMHO, that have been influenced by Bunuel include David Lynch & Alejandro Jodorowski.
Regarding the quality of the DVD transfer, it is in one word superb. I saw this film in a theatre about one month ago & the DVD is definitely much better. It's been drastically cleaned up.
Also there is a brand new 100 minute documentary/biography on Bunuel's life on the second disc & a 1970 24 minute documentary that is also very good on the first disc.
HIGHLY, HIGHLY Recommended. But only IF you like non-linear Dreamy surrealistic pictures.
cheers, Tony Block

Many spelling errors exist apparently.

Is this movie somewhat like Brazil? In a weird, surreal kind of way?

No, the surrealism in Discreet.. is more like those dreams where you shift from one place to the next very suddenly or cant seem to open doors or something. Brazil is more of a cartoony (flying, 20 ft tall samurai warriors) dreaminess to it. Discreet falls into the more classical style of surrealism- militant dictators and soldiers suddenly popping in on a socialites dinner party and mixing it up with the guests, airplane noise coivering up key bits of "important" dialogue. Its more absurd than fantastical, i guess one could say.

I know what it means, but how do you pronounce it?

The good thing is if you can't pronounce it, ya know you're not one.
