Why create a new thread when you have this one that you created?

Re: I think I have a problem...
this is like the 3rd time OldBoy had duplicated his own threads.
Apparently the Landlords thread didn't motivate him to change his ways.
For the record, I've decided to cut back in 2015. I'm putting the money I earn towards an awesome summer vacation in Asia this June.

I'm also scaling back. I'm moving out of state in about 2 years to live out the rest of my semi-retired golden years and need money. Stay tuned in the Exchange forum, because if worst comes worst I'll be offloading my criterions. I have about 99% of them on BD and would let them go for less than retail.
Anyways, I don't want to jump to any conclusions just yet since that's one of my many hail mary's I have in store if need be.
Also OldBoy needs to stope duplicating and bumping threads.

Nope, I'm never slowing down but I don't make impulse purchases either. I will wait it out on good deals and good deals on quality stuff at that.

Re: I think I have a problem...
In addition, since I still have more than a literal ton of VHS, laserdiscs, and DVDs that I really don't want or need, I've put a list of the items I've purged at the bottom of my spending tab. By the end of the year, I hope to have gotten rid of more items than I've brought into the house. At the moment, I'm at just about one purged item for one newly-bought item, but I'm hoping to pick up speed as the year progresses and to have gotten rid of two things for every one I've bought by the end of the year.
One more thing: I just, for the first time, totaled up what I spent on discs from 2011-2014, and it came out to a little over $9,300 dollars. Ouch.

Re: I think I have a problem...
Other than the "what you bought" thread, I don't keep any online records of my purchases or spending.
But I do keep private excel lists where I list
• upcoming announced titles I want
• titles I've ordered/pre-ordered that I haven't received yet
• Titles bought that I do have in hand
Along with a budget for the first and last six months of the year.
Right now, my list for 2015 is sitting at 35 titles announced that I want and another 35 titles I either have on order or that have already come in. I'm budgeting $1500 for purchases up through the end of July, and of that have already spent $622 (on those first 35 titles).
That may seem like a lot, but over 1/3 of that went to a Twilight Time order. It will be June or July before I place another order there...if I even do. My plan is to come in well under budget this year which I think I can do if I wait for the right sale prices and limit my impulse purchases to one or two a month.
Last year, from August to the end of the year I set a budget of $2500. I exceeded that by over $1K, but at the same time I sold over $1100 worth of stuff, so 'technically' I was able to come in $100 under budget. With Amazon no longer an option for selling most of my stuff going forward, my budgets are going to need to be more realistic and less flexible.
I don't expect that to be too hard. I honestly think the format peaked last year in terms of catalog title (my main interest). Plus I went Region Free in the middle of the year so a lot of money was spent buying up a backlog of material from other regions. I'm pretty much caught up with all that, so going forward my pick ups are just going to be from what gets newly announced. It should be relatively easy to keep up from here on out.
But keeping a written list of some kind of what you are anticipating purchasing, rather than just going out and buying stuff whenever, is a big key to understanding where your money is going and what kind of collection you are compiling.
