Boardwalk Empire (S5E03) - "What Jesus Said" - 9/21/14
Chalky heads in a new direction after assessing his latest partnership. In New York, Margaret finds herself in a quandary as a result of her association with Arnold Rothstein. Nucky hosts a prospective "big fish" partner from Boston. Luciano and Siegel meet with Narcisse (Jeffrey Wright) in Harlem, promising business as usual, but encounter resistance. In 1884, young Nucky is privy to the passion of a hotel guest, and flirts with a young girl.

Kind of a weak episode.
You knew Chalky's part was going to end with him killing the guy he escaped with and I could not care any less about Margaret.
At least the preview for next week looked promising.

Not really digging it except maybe for Matt Letscher's Joe Kennedy. Sad that the Onyx is now a strip club run by Mickey Doyle, but that's the depression for you. I did like the scene between Margret and Mrs Rothstein -- well played.
Broken record time, but man do I hate the flashback stuff. It's turning into this show's equivalent to the Theon scenes in Game of Thrones Season 3. They're so useless and I don't care about Nucky's childhood at all. Well, if I'm stuck with these dumb flashbacks, I have a question : was the Commodore's associate there in the murder scene and then giving Nucky advice afterwards supposed to be the same guy who was played by Dominic Chianese in the past few seasons of BE?

I liked this episode and I never really hated Margaret as much as others. Will enjoy seeing Narcisse whacked. Joe Kennedy was awesome.

Pretty good episode. Even though you knew that Chalky was going to kill the guy, I still enjoyed the tension of those scenes. Now that he is on his own, I'm expecting him to get some vengeance. I've been down on Margaret over the years but I don't really mind bringing her back into Nucky's life as long as it leads to something interesting. I'm still reserving judgement on the flashbacks until the end of the season. Also glad to see Mickey back!!!!

These flashbacks... UGGGGGGHHHHHH!!
Enjoyed the Kennedy stuff but man, did the Chalky stuff just not do anything for me and I wish we didn't waste time on this when we have so few episodes left.

I guess I'm in the minority here: I liked the episode. I'm one of the few who likes Margaret: I think she's a good moral foil for Nucky (plus, I've had a crush on Kelly Macdonald since Trainspotting). I also liked the scenes with Chalky. Yes, we all knew he was going to kill that guy, but the tension building up to it was the whole point. I also don't mind the flashback scenes, but wish they weren't quite as long. Seems like they took up 25% of the episode. I'd be OK with, like, 15%.

I liked it, but had the same issues as others.
Margarets inclusion may actually be decent/relevant. We'll see where it goes.
Nucky's childhood - waste of time.
Chalky's storyline this episode wasted too much time and doesn't add much at all to the show. Could've cut it down to 5 minutes.

Yeah, I have no problem with Margaret's storyline this season, and it seems to be headed in an interesting direction. Don't care about Patricia Arquette's character at all, and I'm still not sold on the flashbacks, especially the ridiculous overuse of "Boy/Boy!/Boy." I half expected everyone to burst into song and sing about Nucky's woes.
Plus they repeatedly cut to the flashbacks for all of 6 seconds, then cut back to another plotline.

At least the flashback scenes were quick this time, but my god, those Chalky scenes were interminable!
The episode was alright, but it felt more an episode from the middle of a 10 season show, rather then the middle of an abbreviated final season.

Arquette counting money and Nucky going through his mail to the same song was kind of a cute touch, interested to see if the Nellie Bly angle goes anywhere.
And yes, "how the fuck are you still alive" Mickey...is still alive. And as obnoxious as ever.
Other than that, a good bridge episode in a full season. Probably could've been cut down for an 8-episode year.

Tommy was Jimmy and Angela's kid, the one Richard always loved. Gillian's grandson. Said he was 16, not sure if the ages work out, I thought Tommy was still 6-7 last time we saw him.

On another note, what the fuck is it with Boardwalk Empire using twins to play a single character?
Brady/Tommy Noon - Tommy Darmody
Lucy/Josie Gallina - Emily Schroeder
Declan/Rory McTigue - Teddy Schroeder

At least with Margaret back in Nucky's life I can hope that's finally the end of Patricia Arquette's character (no idea what her name is). Then if Gillian and flashbacks can quit randomly interrupting we have us a show!

Pretty standard thing to do with child actors due to working restrictions.

Tommy Darmody, Jimmy's son. I guess that makes sense. I thought for a second that the kid was going to kill Mickey after he made one of his wisecracks. I'm sure that will do him in eventually. He's going to make the wrong joke to the wrong guy.

Whoever he is, they've made a conscious effort to include him - so with only 5 episodes left he must be related to someone we know... otherwise I doubt they'd bring in a young nobody this late. Maybe he's one of Eli's younger kids?
Back to Margaret... Nucky wasn't imagining her, right? It just seems odd that she'd be sitting in the dark waiting for him to wake up.

It was a strange way to encounter him but I have to believe that Margaret was real.
As far as the kid goes, there's a bunch of possibilities and I'm not sure most of them make sense. It would be a stretch to have Tommy come back. With Richard dead, I'm not sure how he would even know about Mickey or Nucky. Gillian could be the source since we don't know if she's had any contact with Tommy since she's been locked up but that seems unlikely since she lost custody. My guess is that maybe they're setting up a parallel with Nucky using a kid to take out Mickey Doyle and, in the flashbacks, we learn that Nucky killed someone for the Commodore.

I think he's a little too old to be Tommy too but it is interesting to think about and I didn't even think about until I saw people mentioning it on other forums. It will be interesting to see who it is or if it is even a relevant character.
