New Suede Album, "Bloodsports", March 2013

New song here: http://consequenceofsound.net/2013/0...ears-barriers/

Reunited Britpop outfit Suede have returned with their first official release in 10 years. “Barriers” is the premiere export off the Mercury Music Prize-winning collective’s forthcoming album, Bloodsports, due out March. It’s a positive floater that spins around in a romantic haze.

“After a year of sweating and bleeding over the record it’s finally finished so we wanted to get some music out there as soon as we could,” frontman Brett Anderson explained in a press release. “‘Barriers’ isn’t the first single but we are proud of it enough just to chuck it out there and thought that it’s pulsing, romantic swell somehow summed up the feel of the album quite nicely.”

While there’s no tracklisting or an exact release date just yet, Anderson goes on to note that Bloodsports is “about lust, it’s about the chase, it’s about the endless carnal game of love. It was possibly the hardest we’ve ever made but certainly the most satisfying. It’s ten furious songs for me have reclaimed from ourselves what Suede was always about; drama, melody and noise.”
So it looks like we'll have new David Bowie and Suede albums in March of this year. 2013 just got interesting real fast.

This track is so good. I didn't think I was really missing Suede till I heard this. Definitely looking forward to hearing the whole album.

I read another interview where Anderson said the song is a combination of Dog Man Star and Coming Up, which confuses me greatly, as I can't fathom two albums more different.

ha. that's an odd statement. Hopefully it will be better than The Tears.

The new single is good but far more understated than I was expecting from the first new Suede track in almost 10 years. It sounds a bit like 'A New Morning' done better, which is fine but doesn't really seem worthy of coming out of retirement for.

I'm still super anxious for more, of course.

Stream the new album here: http://www.npr.org/2013/03/10/173863...s?refresh=true

I'm liking it a lot. I can imagine that this, MBV, and the new Bowie album will make up a lot of my listening material for the rest of the year.

Re: New Suede Album, "Bloodsports", March 2013

I really loved The Tears, actually. "Apollo 13" was, to my ears, as good as anything Suede ever did. Butler's guitars/arrangements/production work so beautifully with Anderson's lyrics and singing. When it comes to their solo stuff, I find Butler pretty bland, Anderson very interesting and occasionally earth-shattering ("P Marius" = heavenly), if a little stuck in a mellow vein over the long run.

I've been listening to this new album and enjoying it quite a bit, though I need to keep listening to it and give it some real attention before I make up my mind whether its own new merits are substantial and it's more than just the welcome, non-embarrassing return of one of my very favorite bands....

Agree. The new album is amazing. And the MPS's are always great.
