I have never really looked around, but I think most of the others come as a package which include speakers.
I have a Toshiba 6109 and it is identical to the Onkyo. I have been using it for about 6 months and it works great. It has the same sound and picture quality of my old 2109. I picked mine up at Mobshop for $293 shipped, but I don't know if they still carry them.
I would definately recommend using a sub with it since it is only rated at 55 wattsx5. For a sub you can choose any brand you like and is in your budget. I think Amazon has a powered 8" KLH sub on sale for $99 right now and a $20 off coupon that you can use.
For a center get a speaker that timbre matches the Klipsch Quintets or possibly another pair of Quintets if they are shielded. You could use one for the front center now and one for the back center when 6.1 becomes mainstream.

I just bought a 575 from ubid for $300 shipped, but it was refurbished. I have had it for a month and am very happy with my purchase. I think they have a $20 rebate deal going on right now. In case you have troubles making your budget, you may want to check it out. Ubid can be pretty cheap.
