Unable to play Ponyo Blu Ray on Vizio player

Got this one in early February ( model vbr100), never had a issue with any disc or dvd, until today, rented ponyo ( no scratches on disc), and it would play all trailers, up to the main menu, selected play movie and that's it, went to a black screen and no further. Updated the firmware, same thing. Its not a wait for it load issue as I let it sit 15 minutes and nothing.

Wondering if its just a disc, as I have not had any issues with any other blu rays we have rented or purchased.

Try selecting a Scene (like scene 1). I'm having the same issue with Ponyo on my Insignia.

Seriously? Which Insignia do you have? Were you able to fix it somehow? I haven't opened my copy of Ponyo to test it out yet...now I am nervous!

I have the same problem. I just play it with the "Disc Introduction - Meet Ponyo" and skip to the next chapter. I've never had a problem with any other disc either. :/

There really should be a sticky thread for "Known Blu disc issues/glitches" like we have over at CAG. I'm sure Ponyo will play, but I ran into a similar situation with Pineapple Express on my PS3.

choosing the scene trick did work, but I think I may be taking this back and exchanging it for another brand, there are other things I have not been happy with, and I shouldn't have to fight with it. But we'll see.

Get a Sony, LG or Panasonic. Those three have been pretty good on playing titles.

The WiFi version (model is in my signature). A firmware update will come out eventually to fix it, since Disney and Fox are always mucking with things on the discs.

My DVD player is a Toshiba and it played everything I threw at it. My Panasonic BD player, so far, has been the same way. Even out of the box before the latest firmware update I didn't have any problems.

Oops. Thanks. I have the non-WiFi version. Will test it later this week and post back

My Sylvania, which doesn't connect to the internet at all, thus making firmware updates impossible, has never had problems playing anything. *Shrug*

You can download the firmware updates from the website, burn them to a CD-R or DVD-R and load them into the player that way.
