I am looking for my third player, but i need recommendations just in case.

I have decided between:
the Panasonic A320 $399
and the Toshiba SD2200 $299

They are both good enough (except they dont have headphone jacks!!!)

so which one is worth it?
i cant decide

Is having onboard DTS decoding worth $100?

Only you can decide.

I'm sure there are other differences (CDR ability, perhaps?), but that's the major one, other than reliability, where the Tosh might have a slight edge.

You might consider getting a Dolby Digital receiver and more basic dvd player. You'll probably save a bit of money, and gain flexibility and performance.

Is there any particular reason you're not going this way?

Go Toshiba all the way! But if you are just hooking it up to the TV save a couple dollars and get the 1200 instead... Both are good players (I have the 3109 and love it to death)

You can get the A320 for a lot less. Supreme has it for about 315...It might be worth the extra if you have an amp that can handle the decoded output and may soon get the extra speakers.

I would recommend the SD2200, i got it yesterday, and i am impressed. And for the price, in my opinion is a bargain, especially with it having dual trey, and the increased resolution from the previous model (3109). If i were you i would go with the SD-2200.

Just my 2 cents

I would strongly suggest you stay away from DVD players with on-board decoders as they will always be inferior to the decoders built into decent receivers. Also you need to realize that with the decoder built into the DVD player you have to buy a receiver with 5.1 inputs and that will limit the amount of good receivers out there when you decide to buy one as most don't have the 5.1 inputs but only Digital Coaxial or optical inputs. Also having the receiver with the decoder instead of the DVD player frees you up to get CD players with Digital outputs and new players like the DVD-A players coming in the future.
