We all know that Quentin Tarantino writes a great screenplay. However, the screenplay for Pulp Fiction shares the credit with Roger Avary.

What were Avary's contributions to the script?

Interesting, I always thought Jack Rabbit Slims was a real place that was just modified a bit.

What's weird is that Avary is only credited for stories, when's it pretty clear that he actually cowrote the script. I mean the famous Chris Walken monologue is Avary's work.

Tarantino wanted a "written and directed by" credit, so he somehow convinced Avary to accept a "story by" co-credit, even though Avary did indeed write some of the actual script.
