Sin City 4/21/09

loaded Sin for those who waited
Blu-ray to Finally Visit "Sin City"
January 28, 2009

What was once planned to be released during the first few months of Buena Vista's Blu-ray Disc era will see the light of day on April 21. Frank Miller's Sin City is at long last officially coming to Blu-ray.

Dimension is making sure to take advantage of Blu-ray's storage capacity by offering both the original theatrical cut and extended unrated recut version in the same package.

Each version will be pressed onto a separate disc flanked by a total of over 8 hours of bonus features. Disc one will include the theatrical cut; the first of two new Blu-ray exclusive features, Cine-Explore; two audio commentaries and an audio track from Austin premiere.

Disc two will include the recut version; Kill 'Em Good Interactive Comic Book that retells Marv's story with you in the driver's seat; four featurettes; interviews with Quentin Tarantino and Frank Miller; Robert Rodriguez special features and "much more" which are likely comprised of extras from the last DVD edition.

On the tech specs front, Dimension is blessing Sin City with 1.85:1 1080p video, 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and D-BOX Motion Code on the disc.

Check out a sneak peek of the cover art and bonus features below. The retail price has been set at $35.99 which means the on-shelf price should be around $25. I'll report back with pre-order information and a link once available.

Pass. The $14 Canadian BD is good enough for me.

Re: Sin City 4/21/09

The import is good enough for me.

Having said that, I'll probably double-dip if I see it for cheap, or I'm bored or something.

I wonder if this BD will fix the audio issue the SD release has? Still not entirely sure if I'll upgrade or not.

Re: Sin City 4/21/09

Glad this is coming out, but I'll wait until it's $20. I guess Disney is going to continue treating their catalog titles the same as day & date titles with this $35.99 list price.

Re: Sin City 4/21/09

What's the difference between the theatrical and extended cuts? I'm wondering If I should sell my Canadian Blu-ray now and get this sometime on sale... not sure.

The extended version has deleted scenes added back in and the 4 stories are separated into their own stories like the comics were.

Re: Sin City 4/21/09

I have the Canadian BD but I'll still get this for the recut stuff. SO I guess the plan will be sell my Recut DVD set now, then sell the Canadian BD upon confirmation the US BD is as good or better than the Canadian disc in terms of PQ/AQ.

So complicated!

After hearing how the video quality is so good that you can really notice make-up and prosthetics, I'm not sure if I want to upgrade.

Same here especially since price drops in general have been fast and furious lately.

It looked good to me - I didn't notice those things in the theater and I didn't notice them on the Canadian BR disc. The upgrade in PQ is worth it, great looking disc.

I'm sure I'll pick this up. I'll wait for 2 weeks after release when Amazon will have it on sale for $3 and it will come with a free toaster.
