Will Blu-ray Survive after 2009?

I've recently decided to buy a PS3 mainly for blu-ray usage since there is a lack of good exclusive games to the system but I've been reading that blu-ray has some struggles ahead especially the way things are going ... I was just wondering if anyone else has heard or read anything about how blu-ray is doing. I know it had a great holiday season but can it really keep up with dvd and on demand hd movies?

What're you waiting for - go get it! You will be a happy camper, and don't listen to the doomsayers. Always check Walmart - if they no longer carry it, it's dead.

Even if Blu-Ray failed the most spectacular failure of a death starting today, I can't imagine the entire world would give up on it before the beginning of 2010.

If the PSP is still around then you count on Blu-ray lasting another year.

Disney stopped making PSP movies a long time ago but quess what?

They licensed a special PSP movie version of National Treasure 2 for a PSP bundle pack. Even Sony licensed a bunch of MTV shows for PSP movie, long after Paramount dropped support.

As for Blu-ray Disc...

Every studio supports it.

Check the PS3 store and see if you can find Universal movies for download.

Check the XBox Live Marketplace and see if you can find Sony movies for download.

Netflix admitted to G4 that seeing day and date movies on their on demand service is a blip on the horizon.

Hell, Video CDs are still selling better in Southeast Asia even after dying in the US and Canada. Planet Terror and Deathproof even got released on HD DVD in Germany months after HD DVD's death.

I doubt it. There are tons of doom-and-gloom articles about Blu-ray.

Re: Will Blu-ray Survive after 2009?

considering that the Dark Knight sold ONE million copies on Blu-Ray here in the US its first week and roughly 1.7 million copies on Blu-Ray worldwide... According to Digitalbits.com- Blu-Ray is further along in terms of a sales after two years than standard dvd technology in its first two years of market penetration..

I'm sure Blu-ray will be around at least until 2012, after which it won't matter anymore anyways.

I keep remembering where DVD was at the same point in that format's life.

Blu Ray is doing just fine.
