Death Race - 12/23/08

**UPDATE** NEW RELEASE DATE IS 12/21

http://www.thehdroom.com/news/Death_...e_Contest/3695

A new trade publication advertisement has confirmed Universal Studios Home Entertainment plans to release Death Race starring Jason Statham on Blu-ray December 23, day-and-date with DVD.

Tech specs, though not confirmed, will likely offer a widescreen 1080p transfer and 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio.

Only one extra feature is known at this time and it's a unique one. Utilizing BD-Live, viewers will be able to record a play-by-play video of themselves. Once recorded, the video can be uploaded online and then judged by "someone" with prizes at stake.

------------------------

This looks cheesy enough that I may actually buy it.

You will NOT, I repeat NOT be disappointed. This (and Doomsday) is the ultimate guilty pleasure of 2008.

It has an 18 wheeler with a tank built onto it. I repeat: an 18 wheeler-tank hybrid. Also, it's called the Dreadnaught. You can't get more awesomely cheesy than that.

And Joan Allen's gun under her desk. Oh yeah, this BD will be mine. Loved it!

What?

So I could make a video of myself eating a sandwhich and have others judge me for prizes? I'm in.

One of the best movies of the summer, and I will be happy to have it by release day.

I'd like to hear more about this play by play video feature.

Haven't seen the film, but I may give it a blind buy.

And not just Sunday. I read recently it's turning into whenever the studios want to release it. Some others are being released on Friday now too.

I know I was seriously entertained by it... first time in A LONG TIME that I can say that about a Paul W.S. Anderson flick.

It's not Doomsday, but it packs quite a bit of awesomeness.

I was disappointed by Doomsday so I'll give this one a shot.

On a side note, isn't it funny how you can think a movie looks like shit when you see the preview then hear all this word of mouth and get excited for it and assume it's good and then be even more disappointed when it isn't? It's kind of the double disappointment.

Heads up

This title comes with D-Box motion controls. First for a studio outside of Fox?

I avoided this in theatres because it looked really bad. I rented this yesterday to keep my grandfather entertained.

I adored every last minute of it! The video game logic (the "boss fight" against the Dreadnaught anyone), the just under over the top action, the hot babe , etc. It was just so freakin' awesome!

And the audio/video are topnotch on this release. Definite purchase for me.

Just five more days guys! For now, it looks like Best Buy has it it the cheapest for $26.99. I really hate paying that much for any single disc. Anyone know where to find it for less?

Also, fans might want to check out this review and discussion. I like Brian's reviews (for the most part), but I'm sorry, no way does this film deserve zero stars:

If you have an FYE near you, you may want to check it out tomorrow. We should be putting Death Race out then.

Picked-up a copy up here at Future Shop this morning. They're at the going 'new Blu' rate of C$29.99.
