Why no "Free-for-all" thread?

I noticed that this thread about the OPM editor not wanting a PS3 for a while getting locked curious. It's news. Yes, it's flamebait, but a valid news story.

Not having been around for the PS2/Xbox/NGC launch, I don't know the history on VG Talk about this stuff. But I find it odd that the HD Talk forum has a sanctioned free for all thread. Why the discrepancy? Maybe there's a reason HD Talk isn't availble from the forum jumper at the top of the page from this area :P

Just curious.

Reason I locked it is because I don't think it's newsworthy enough for its own thread, it should definitely go into the official PS3 thread.

To answer your question - people take things too far when it's open season. Flame wars get out of hand far too easily and we'd rather not allow it to happen on the forum. We tolerate zero console bashing, and policing a thread like that would be hell.
