TV weight and stand weight: Will my TV break it?
I wasn't sure which forum to put this in but I think this might be the best place.
I just bought a 27" wega (can't go any bigger due to space issues in my apartment and affordability too).
It is 99.5 lbs according to the sheet. My TV stand, one of those put together things from IKEA says it holds a maximum of 110 lbs, it is made of some kind of "wood" or so it appears. That gives about 10 lbs to play with.
Am I cutting it too close? I like my TV stand, its nice and small, but I don't want to come home one day only to find my TV has crushed my Gamecube, PS2, DVD's, etc. Has that happened to anyone?

I've got a 36" Sony HD CRT that weights in at (I think) 230 lbs. My TV stand is rated for 220 lbs. It's been sitting there for two years, and no problems. I'd say you're probably okay.

Thanks for your response shagrath. It looks ok sort of, I tried "testing" its durability. Seemed ok, wobbles a little bit. How many legs does your stand have, or is it a big case? I'm thinking that stands with 3 legs are probably more sturdy as I was looking around and found that Sony's "official" 27 inch TV stand also only holds 111 lbs but has 3 legs (one for middle support).
Mine has two side supports and thats it. It is actually this one (don't laugh, I dare you to beat the price )

hahah! yes I shall do that. Actually I ended up biting the bullet and getting a new stand. I got something called a Tunby (also from Ikea), the reason being that the wega base was going to be larger than the width of the stand and I didn't want to chance it, so then I was looking in the store and found this one, it was only $34.99 so I thought it was a pretty good deal (its silver in color too), rated for a max of 143 lbs.

I drove over there, bought it, and put it together literally minutes before the guys arrived to deliver my TV on monday morning, no Flarking accidents, its very sturdy, all's well so far . Thanks for the help.
