Star Trek: The Animated Series (rumored) 2006 release
Thedigitalbits.com Rumor Mill is reporting that Paramount is working on releasing Star Trek: The Animated Series on 2006.

We've got tentative word that might interest you Star Trek fans today. It seems like we report on this title about every six months, only to see its release delayed again. But sources are telling us that work is indeed underway on a long-awaited DVD release of Star Trek: The Complete Animated Series. If all goes well, look for Paramount to release the title early in 2006.

Thanks for the heads up! Hopefully, this time the series won't be in the hands of Columbia House to produce, as was the rumor last time around.
I've had the series on my wishlist for a long time now, and I'm hoping this rumor turns out to be truth!

More from thedigitalbits.com Rumor Mill:

Well... it appears to be the real deal this time, folks! We've confirmed with multiple sources now, each in places to know, that work is definitely underway for a 2006 DVD release of Star Trek: The Complete Animated Series. And we have a little bit of additional information today as well. In our last post, we'd said to expect the title early in 2006. We're now hearing that mid-to-late 2006 is the more likely timeframe. One source told us that the title wasn't yet on the studio's release schedule through June, and a couple of others let us know that September or October of next year was tentatively planned. Upon doing a little research, September would make a LOT of sense. It was back on September 8th of 1966 that the original Star Trek series first debuted on NBC TV here in the States. That would make September 2006 the franchise's official 40th Anniversary. Heck... they canned Enterprise, there are no new movies on the way yet (although there are some new rumors - click here and here). Paramount's gotta do SOMETHING for the 40th Anniversary, right? Makes sense to me.
Keep those hailing frequencies open, 'cause you know we'll keep you up to date on this in the weeks and months ahead...

Confirmed 2006 release according to thedigitalbits.com:

Well... it's about time. Seriously, after all the false starts and rumors, it pleases me to no end to be able to say what I'm about to say. Yes... Paramount has now officially confirmed to us that they are working to release Star Trek: The Animated Series on DVD in 2006. No additional details are available at this time, other than what we've already posted in The Rumor Mill this week, which is basically that the release date is likely to be in the second half of the year to coincide with the franchise's anniversary. Still, given how long fans have been waiting for this series to reach DVD, I think it's darned good news, and now it's official too. We'll keep our eye on this title and let you know when there's more to report.

Star Trek Animated DVD Pulled
According to this website, which carries new from Star Trek Magazine, Paramount have pulled Star Trek TAS from the 2006 schedule. No more info than that other than them being "as disappointed as the fans".
Maybe 2007...maybe never then..

Of course, this is a UK website, but as there was never a rumour of an R2 release anyway I'm assuming it's referring to the R1 release previously reported in places like The Bits and TVShowsOnDVD.
Gutted!
I have to say I'm less than thrilled by the prospect of re-releases of TNG and themed sets. Lets have some new stuff, not rehashes of the old, thanks.

Star Trek is one of the few series where r2 largely parallels r1. If it's been pulled from r2, IMHO there's even odds that it's gonna get pulled from r1 as well. As Paramount surely hold the rights to it everywhere, so if it's a problem with an actor/writer/whatever, or a technical hitch, it will hit all regions.

I hope this holds up as well as I remember as a kid. I know the Johnny Quest set did. Here's hoping the official word is close at hand. Sonny, thanks for the link to the cover art. I'm ready for it!
