"Care Bears" unrecognized. DVD, or player?

A little while back I got an LG DVD burner for the family room. I just noticed that my daughter's Care Bears DVD will not play in it (we bought it on a trip and played it on our portable DVD just fine). I noticed assorted scratches and assumed it was history, so we went out to buy another one (Care Bears again, different movie). Brand new out of the package, unrecognized.

I play it in another player just fine. Out of curiosity I go check the original one again and sure enough, it plays fine on other players as well.

How do I learn about why these particular DVD's do not play? Is it the producer of the DVD (Lion's Gate) being over zealous with some copy protection, or is it the burner doing something not on the up-and-up that is causing the clash? How prevalent can I expect this problem to become? I'm disappointed that my kids can't watch their movies on the big tv.

Thanks!

Duane
