FYI, I finally picked up that Yellow Matter Custard cd set. Received it for Christmas. So after a few weeks of listening, thought I would give some feedback.
Excellent. I highly recommend it. It has something all the other tributes and cover songs lack. FUN. This cd is a blast. This is probably due to a few factors.
-One it is one band of friends on stage just having a good time(they even act like they are the Beatles when talking to the audience) vs. an album of various artists.
-Two, it's live which helps, feeding of the live energy.
-Three, they aren't trying to reinvent the wheel like other artists. For the most part they keep the songs close to the originals which gives off that 60's vibe.
-Four, it isn't a commercial album so there is no pressure to make a hit single or any of that nonsense.
-Five, it isn't just the core hits. They stray a bit and created a good mix of songs.
The only track that strays a bit from the original is While My Guitar Gently Weeps, which is a 7 minute rendition. It is still the same old song you know and love except for a guitar solo in the middle. Brilliant and, IMO, the highlight of the album.
I recommend this over any other tribute cd. If you are looking for one, you can't go wrong with this one.

^ That sounds pretty good. Lately I've been on a big cover album kick.
Oh and thank you for bumping this thread and reminding me of my new life mission: Tracking down the Fiery Furnaces and taking their picture while I tell them how much I hate them for their version of Norwegian Wood.
