LCD Soundsystem (what a fantastic album!)

Okay, I have no idea why I am the only one here praising or even mentioning this album - it's undoubtably one of the best of the year (so far)

New York musician/ producer James Murphy has created a fantastic album that could best described as a punk/disco album. It's shouty, addictive and just makes you want to move your body.

as a supplement purchase - you also have to pick up Mr. Murphy's (and ex-Mo Wax and UNKLE producer/composer Tim Goldsworthy) alternate 'band'
DFA (Death From Above) album. The album DFA: Compilation Vol.2 features several LCD Soundsystem songs including the bombastic "Yeah (Crass Version) / Beat Connection" remix which threatens to send your home sound system rocketing into the heavens.

Tracklisting:
Disc: 2
1. LCD Soundsystem - Yeah (Crass Version)
2. Black Dice - Endless Happiness (Eye Remix)
3. J.O.Y. - Sunplus
4. LCD Soundsystem - Beat Connection
5. Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - El Monte
6. Liquid Liquid - Bellhead
7. Pixeltan - That’s The Way I Like It
8. The Rapture - Sister Saviour (DFA Dub)
9. The Juan Maclean - Less Than Human

Disc: 3
1. Pixeltan - Get Up / Say What
2. The Rapture - Echoes
3. Liquid Liquid - Bellhead
4. J.O.Y. - Sunplus (DFA Remix)
5. Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - El Monte
6. The Juan Maclean - Give Me Every Little Thing
7. The Rapture - Sister Saviour (DFA Dub)
8. Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - Rise
9. The Juan Maclean - I Robot
10. Black Dice - Endless Happiness (Eye Remix)
11. LCD Soundsystem - On Repeat (Dub)
12. LCD Soundsystem - Yeah (Crass Version) / Beat Connection

DFA Compilation 1

Tracklisting:

1. The Juan Maclean – By The Time I Get To Venus
2. LCD Soundsystem – Give It Up
3. The Rapture – House Of Jealous Lovers
4. Black Dice – Cone Toaster
5. The Juan Maclean – You Can’t Have It Both Ways
6. The Rapture – Silent Morning
7. LCD Soundsystem – Losing My Edge
8. Black Dice – Endless Happiness

All three albums highly recommended!

Admittedly I'm not a big fan of the genre, but I find LCD intolerable. I listened to the two discs twice and would never listen to it again.

M.I.A.'s Arular, now that's another story.

Again, just not my cup of tea.

LCD Soundsystem's Full Length album is sort of a mixed bag IMO. The original singles however (available on disc 2), more than make the purchase worth it.

I got this a while back and quite like it, nice dry deadpan humor and not too pretentious -- I reviewed it a while back on my blog here. Nothing deep but a lot of fun and great driving music.

Definitely like the singles on disc 2 far more than the album, but there's some great stuff on the album too.

Add me to the "I just don't get it" crowd.

I love electronic/dance stuff, and when I first heard raves about this album, I downloaded it and was sure I'd gotten a bunch of bogus tracks, as one sometimes gets using an illict download service. I got it again a few weeks later, and was surprised that I had gotten it right the first time around- it just isn't good, even the second disc. Boring songs, awful vocals- I just don;t get what everyone's raving about.

...But then again, I really like the new Daft Punk, and it's gotten horrid reviews.

I can't stand the new Daft Punk - it's just plods and feels like they didn't even try to make the songs seem unique or interesting. There are only a couple of songs that are decent, the rest just sound like filler.

An aside --- a lot of these songs (for example, on Comp #2 Pixeltan's "Get Up Say What") only sound great when the volume is turned waaay up. A lot of the subtleties are lost if you listen on tinny/tiny headphones or speakers.

I like their stuff except "Yeah (Crass Version)" which I don't find appealing at all.

Also, this might be obvious to some, but if you like the rock aspect of this music more than the dance, but still want both, get Echoes by The Rapture. There's a lot of good tracks on there, including "House of Jealous Lovers".

LCD Soundsystem are supposed to be on Letterman tonight. I was blown away last time they were on.

And here I thought this was a Sound of Silver thread when I clicked it (probably my favorite album of the year so far). I saw them live about two weeks ago and they were tremendous. I'm a fan of their work, had never seen them before, and they blew away my expectations for what their live show would be. I highly recommend anyone seeing them if you get the chance.

They are awesome live, though I'm not digging the new album as much as their first one (which is a freaking classic).

"Someone Great" is my leading contender for song of the year. It was the highlight of the 45 minute Nike track but now with vocals and how it is placed on the album it's just amazing.
