Best gift for a jazz afficianado?

I have a supervisor whom I want to get a gift for, and I know that he's a big fan of jazz. I'm not sure he has in terms of music and stuff, so I was just curious if there are any jazz fans out there who could recommend a gift of some kind to a fan of jazz music that may not necessarily be music.

Thanks in advance.

I'd go with a box set. Find out who his favorite musician is. There are some nice extended deluxe versions of stuff like Bitches Brew for example.

(Don't get a general "Jazz Hits" CD).

My recommendation, if you don't mind the price (maybe have someone else chip in):

This is considered by many to be some of the best piano ever recorded.

Another idea is to get some type of jazz memorabilia, like an old Blue Note album framed. I've got a couple here at home and they do look quite snazzy. I've got Brubeck, Wonder, Sinatra, and Parliament all in my stairwell.

Washington, DC. Thanks for the suggestions. This idea came to me pretty late (my last week is about three weeks away), so I hope I can get something interesting. Thanks again!

Any idea what kind of jazz he likes?
I would go for one of the columbia Miles Davis box sets if you want to play it safe.
I would make a more specific rec but you didn't give a budget...

The Ken Burns Jazz box set is a nice gift. It's a five-disc collection that's a decent overview of the jazz movement, from it's start through today. And at under $40, it's priced right.

I was thinking that, but Ken Burns may be a little too cliche'. I just don't know. I'll do some more legwork and let y'all know what I come up with.

Thanks!

I was thinking Ken Burns' Jazz DVD Box set. 10 discs in all. Pretty comprehensive, imo. Expensive, though.

not sure what type of jazz he digs, but checking pollstar.com shows a bunch of jazz shows coming in the next few weeks and months including.

Chris Botti - sax (kenny gish)
Norah Jones - duh
Diane Reeves - jazz vox
Eddie Palmieri - latin jazz, a lot of fun!
Dr John - more bluesy but still rockin

lots of others that fit as well, but clearly some good jazz shows to be had in the area.
