DVD Talk review of 'Stand By Me: Deluxe Edition'
I read Jeff Paramchuk's DVD review of Stand By Me: Deluxe Edition at http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/read.php?ID=14954 and...
Isn't the new version DD 5.1 sound and the earlier version only mono?

There is no 5.1 audio on the Deluxe Edition--any indications you've seen otherwise are faulty. The disc is EXACTLY the same as the prior release in every way. The only incentives for upgrading are the soundtrack CD and 32-page colector booklet.

Exactly. The disc is the same as the previous addition (mono). While still a good disc, I can't recommend it for someone to double dip. First time buyers get a good deal though.

Considering that you can buy the previous version at places like Best Buy for under $10 and the new edition costs about $20, I'd say it's not a very good deal and most people would be better off buying the previous version.
New version: Not Recommended
