Thanks to little kids on the 'net exposing the hard drive to steal games, Sony dropped support of the hard drive, and gave a word to developers not to use it.

I think the fact that the new PStwos are not even compatible with a hard drive is a pretty good indication that the HD is not a cornerstone of the future of the PS2.

The PSTwo is directed to getting more users. It just so happens that is so fucking cool that legacy users (like myself) are buying it as well. I know I'm never going to use a hard drive, so no reason not to trade up.

The new EGM has a blurb in their rumor section about a new high-capacity memory card from Sony. This big card will allow the downloading of the SOCOM maps and basically replace the need for the hard drive (FFXI excluded of course).

Also the hard drive plus HD loader turns your PS2 into a big game jukebox. Plus the loading times are almost eliminated for most games. Not advocating piracy since I buy all my games, but installing them makes them run so much better it seems.

Apparently it does if you want to fix the skipping errors and other miscelaneous problems: http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/gen...topic=17566300
