Hello. I am looking for a good 27" TV and I was hoping someone could recommend one. I am not really picky about the feature, but I do want it to have at least 1 S-Video input. My price range is about $300. Thanks.

JVC 27" Flat Tube Stereo TV $330

Toshiba 27" Stereo TV $250

Both have S-video AND component inputs. The JVC is alittle higher than $300 but (currently) I have a JVC and it's been a really good TV. I've heard good things about Toshiba TVs (never owned one, though).

I too am looking for a TV in this size/price range (27"-32", $300-$400). I am rather TV stupid though. I was browsing Best Buy and seeing what my local store had.

One thing that caught my attention was the Sharps with the 16:9 mode. However, is this worth it, does it provide a better picture? Are Sharps reliable?

What other models would people recommend? I want the best possible picture for DVDs for now, but I will someday be getting a projector or larger/better/HD TV once we buy a house. So, this TV will now, and later, be used for TV watching a lot, as well as gaming. And later will most likely be a TV watching and backup, which is why I'm stayig smaller/cheaper.

Are the flats better as well? They seem to be.

I am just overall lost and not sure what to get, but my wife wants the new one in the house this weekend.

Looked at couple more models. The Sony KV27FS120 and Toshiba 27AF44. Can someone tell me if the Sony's V Compression is on the remote, or if I must enter a menu, or if it is automatic?

And on the Toshiba, I was a little confused. The shelf tag ad box didn't have V-compression listed, but the remote had a 16:9 button and it seemed to work just fine. So, can someone confirm that this model has that?

I was doing this same search about 3 months ago and my main contenders were the Sony and Panasonic models with Toshiba as a third consideration; I was replacing a 20 inch Sony which is a great TV but just smaller than I wanted. I wound up with a 27 inch Philips that I can't say enough good things about. It took me awhile to tweak the picture just where I wanted it, but once I did so it's been a joy to watch. I have no clue as to longevity or reliability as it's the first Philips I've ever owned, but if I were looking then I would definitely take a look at their model. I bought one with a built-in DVD player because it was on clearance at Sears, but K-Mart and Sears both carry the Philips brand. The only one not in the $300 range is the Sony, it seems to go for $80-$100 more.

Outer-edge, cant help you on the V compression but once you get a flatscreen you'll be hard pressed to go back to the bubblescreen.

i got the 27af44 for my bedroom like 2 weeks ago, and it looks great!

yeah the 16:9 button is the V-Compression and makes DVDs looks quite amazing. You just predd it and it's automatic, no menus or anything.

I bought it at BestBuy which had it listed on their site at 350$ but i got it on the store for 270+Tax!

Couldn't be happier, excellente quality.

friends don't recommend small TVs. go bigger.

Well, problem is: small duplex; one good available wall for TV area; with DVD rack, TV stand, Sub and A/V equip., there is no room to add anything more.

So, the TV had to fit on the current TV stand, no other option.

Luckily, the Toshiba 27" I went with fits perfectly. Thanks for everyone's comments. I definately like the V-Compression so far and the flat tube is awesome. I definately made the right choice for the time being. Between this thread and others I actually felt like I knew something before buying.

Shopping around for TVs also got my wife looking at larger models for the future.
