According to the Criterion Collection site they are!

Really? It must have just happened recently. I've been holding off on these because they aren't anamorphic, but now I'm not sure. Should I get these while I still can, or wait and hope for a better release. Hmmm. Cool films, BTW. Udo Kier is great.

Well that is strange that they went out of print. But what is even stranger is how hard they were to order. DVD Planet has cancelled both titles and Criteriondvd.com isn't allowing you to purchase it. I ended up buying both at DDD. Normally I don't hop on the going OOP bandwagon but the fact that they disappeared from e-tailers so quickly made me want to snatch these up.

Criterion has let us know recently when things have gone OOP. It's strange how quickly these have vanished....

I want them, but I think I will hold off for a while. I have been burned before, buying just cause something went or was going OOP. Maybe its just that the rights transfered or something. Possible new releases will keep me at bay.

Wow... sure didn't expect these to go OOP. I picked up both at SecondSpin for $18 each back in January.

It's funny with these two because every time I'd go to Fry's I'd see them in the horror section and not in the Criterion section. I always felt the urge to move 'em but thought maybe they should stay....

Yeah, I would have picked these up a long time ago if they were anamorphic... But since they're not, no interest. I'd wager that there's a re-release or releases from another company lined up at some point, with 16X9 transfers. I'll wait.

I picked these up for $10 each at a local video store that went out of business in 1999. About time they got collectible.

Um, haven't they been out-of-print for a while?

I remember reading that quite some time ago. Considering the films in question, I doubted there was much fanfare to be had...

Picked up Flesh for Frankenstein... Already had Blood for Dracula. There's still several sites that have these in stock online. Get em QUICK!

Something tells me that DDD is going to send me an "out of stock" e-mail some time in the next 24 hours.

Ugh.

Damn... I hope not. That's where I ordered mine from.

Cross your fingers.

***EDIT***

I just did a search at DDD for both titles and neither appear on the website. Is this good news or bad news for those of us who got an order in tonight?

Amazon and Overstock still have them.

I don't even see them listed any more.

Hmmm... I was actually going to go pick these up today. Looks like I'll be picking up multiple copies.

Well my order status at DDD is really weird. Its blank and it just says 1 $28.76 for both. But I checked my bank account and I have a pending charge on there for them so I guess that's a good sign.

Well even though I placed an order with DDD last night, there's no OPEN orders showing in my account and I have yet to get a Temp charge on my CC. Oh well, I got FFF for a few penny's more shipped form Overstock.com. Would have been cheaper (using %10 off), but Overstock now charges taxes for Indiana (SUCKS ASS).

Its funny how everyone is hating people trying to make a buck on a film, people hate it when no one really pays any attention to a film until its unobtainable or its notoriously hard to find.... But when you step back and watch how everyone is... Its seems that everyone wants to make a buck, and cash in on the craze.

Good god I love america! lol

Who says people are doing this to make a buck. There are plenty of films I want, but aren't at the top of my list. If I found out what of these films was going out of print, I would try to get it ASAP, because in a few months, I would be paying out the nose.

Heliosphann
09-16-04, 09:32 PM
Yea... I'm only getting it because I'm 12 Criterion's shy of having the whole collection and Flesh For Frankenstein just happens to be one of them...

I'm not talking about everyone.. I'm refering to those people that bought 30 copies of Ed Wood, trying to make a buck on them. Only to find out that the freakin movie is coming back out in the exact same suppliments and they were forced to dump or return all of their copies. When people 2 months prior just loved the movie and wanted to just have the film.

I myself am trying to complete a set of CC films. I am sitting at 138 CC's... Now I've obtained about 70 films within the last 2 months.

I purchased both of these films because I'm in love with horror movies. I took a blind purchase on these pictures prior to wanting to complete the collection and found both are hillariously entertaining.

I cant seem to find Salo and Killer Authentic for nothing though... I dont wanna buy them when i can just trade a butt load of other films and maybe some cash for them. AHEM! lol

no offense to anyone... but you know what I'm talking about, just the simple frustration that i'm talking about in the first paragraph.

I got a shipped notice today. :) I hurried up and bought these because I've been wanting to see them for awhile now. If I heard that they were gonna be re-released I would of hesitated. But since these may not ever come out again I want to have them now.

I grabbed both from Overstock this afternoon. I really hope these aren't going to be rereleased down the road with new transfers since I'm planning to build a complete Criterion collection in the future, and spending $60 on these was a kick in the wallet for right now. :( But it's either $60 now or $100+ down the road when all you can find are copies on eBay.

I picked these up as well on Amazon. These have been on the "to buy list" for awhile and today I got the motivation to act. My friend has them and they are totally fun horror flicks and Joe is the man.

I found one copy of each at Borders. With the current 15% off coupon, the cost was only a little more than at DDD.

I Picked up a copy of "Blood For Dracula" today, I've been wanting to buy this for sometime now but had gotten around to picking it up, I already had gotten "Flesh" a few years back so was lucky on that part.

Sigh. So after a series of vendors cancelling orders on me, I've finally got my copy of Blood for Dracula but still no Flesh for Frankenstein. DVDPricesearch yields nothing as far as places that still have it in stock, and ebay, half, and Amazon marketplace prices are getting insane. My last resort seems to be Borders, but according to online store inventory, only one store within 100 miles of me has it "on order." Is that online inventory site usually accurate? Does anyone know any online stores at all that still have this in stock?

Adn then hope it's not a bootleg, since many Zshop OOP DVD's are.

Yes, but then you wouldn't get the Udo Keir/Paul Morrissey commentaries, which are more interesting than the films themselves.

I always regret that I missed Flesh For Frankenstein when it was in 3D at the cinema to my eternal regret, as I think I'll never get the chance ever again , as 3D doesn't work well in the DVD format apparently!

I wonder if any of the famous 3D movies such as Dial M For Murder, House of Wax, Creature From The Black Lagoon, etc., will ever get reissued in the 3D format ever again, and if so will the poor 3D effect caused on the DVD format get "fixed"??

FRANKENSTEIN, HOUSE OF WAX, DIAL M FOR MURDER and most of the 70s and 80s 3-D movies have long since been out there on video in field sequential format, which requires a $30 set up using LCD shutter glasses. This format is the closest thing to the original polarized 3-D you can get at home. The only legit releases were in Japan over a decade ago in the now defunct VHD videodisc format; but of course those have been bootlegged to death ever since.

You wouldn't want to see these movies converted to the inferior red/blue anaglyph system on DVD, that always looks awful and of course completely unlike the original 3-D versions.

These films still get revived in cinemas in the major cities from time to time. Keep BOTH eyes open and catch on of these in the original polarized (clear glasses) 3-D if you get the chance. I saw 35 of the 51 3-D flicks from the fifties last year at the World 3-D Film Expo in Los Angeles. After that, it seemed strange to see a movie and NOT have to wear polarized glasses!

I saw FRANKENSTEIN in a 1982 re-issue in 3-D. It isn't as interesting in the flat prints, but on DVD it is the best option for most people. I have the widescreen 3-D version in field sequential format and it looks pretty good for a transfer made nearly 15 years ago but it would be great to see an upgraded DVD with this option too.

They cancelled both of mine and said they can't get them in again. Totally out of stock nationwide. :(
