I enjoyed it as a rental. It is definately a great first for the Owens brothers. If you can find it for $10 or less I recommend it.

I didn't care for the movie when I first saw it about 6 years ago. However, I loved Rushmore & The Royal Tenenbaums, the two follow-up films by Wes Anderson, so I might like it more now. There was a rumor going around about a possible Criterion release of the DVD, but I'm not holding my breath. Anyway, you should probably rent it first.

Still Wes Anderson's best film IMO. You may not love it the first time you watch it but it can grow on you like fungus.

Loved Royal Tenenbaums. This forced me to go back and rewatch Rushmore. Now that I am older and wiser, Rushmore is my favorite movie ever. This then forced me to watch Bottle Rocket for the first time. While it is my least favorite of the three, it is still an incredible classic and easily watchable. I would get it.

I think it really comes down to how much you appreciate the Owens brothers type of dry humor. This was a blind buy for me and I really enjoyed it from the opening seen, although the movie does tend to slow down a little in the toward the middle.

Bottom line, if you like Owen and Luke Wilson, you will like the movie...

I'd wait for the eventual Criterion release, but keep in mind I've been waiting for that for about 5 years.

I don't understand why Kumar hasn't hit it big as the next action star. He's at least Rock sidekick worthy.

I've found that Wes Anderson movies are very easy for me to make a recommendation. Did you like Rushmore/Tennenbaums? You always get a yes/yes or a no/no, almost never a split. If you get the yes/yes, then Bottle Rocket is worth the blind buy. If no/no then it's not. I imagine The Life Aquatic will continue this trend. I personally adore all his movies, and I've found it's pretty easy to peg what types of movie-goers will also feel this way about his stuff and which won't.

Tenenbaums is my favorite, but I think Bottle Rocket is the most watchable. I've certainly watched it more than Wes's other movies recently. I see no reason that if you enjoy his other films, you shouldn't atleast like this one, and make it a worthy blind purchase. I find it gets funnier everytime.
