anyone have a bad experience with a retail warranty plan?
there is a thread on fatwallet about someone who bought a laptop and paid a $500 warranty on top of it to CompUSA. It broke and now CompUSA is refusing to fix it, even though the sales person said it covers all kinds of damage. Even customer made damage.
I read the terms on the website and it clearly says that it doesn't cover a wide variety of damage, but the sales people keep pushing and lying about it. Anyone have a bad experience with these things?

Years ago I worked at a service place for a major company that offered these "extended warranties." The problem is that you have two seperate groups: the first is the service department who has to do the repairs. The second are the slimy sales people who will tell the customer anything in order to get them to buy the plan.
The bottom line? This sort of thing happens all the time. Read the fine print, and pay no heed to what the sales person claims.
My recommendation is to never, ever buy these. They are "sucker bets." The companies wouldn't offer them if they weren't making a huge profit from it.
