CDs for the Week (03/01/04 - 03/05/04)
Modest Mouse - The Moon And Antarctica
TMBG - Mink Car
Ella Fitzgerald - Ella For Lovers
Dixie Chicks - Home
Modern Jazz Quartet - Django
My Morning Jacket - It Still Moves
Norah Jones - Feels Like Home (this past weekend, thanks to those fine states' attorneys general who helped send me a check for $13.86)
QOTD: Just offer some general thoughts on your pile...
Listened to the Modest Mouse for the first time. I got it because many moons ago the forum suggested that I would like it best of about 5 CDs available at Columbia House. And... I didn't care for it much at all. Of course, it was my first Modest Mouse album (save for an early rarities CD), but it could be my last... Last time I ask y'all to decide for me.
But everytime I listen to the Dixie Chicks' Home, I like that album more and more. A great album.
The Norah Jones is good, less mellow than her first album. It has a very 90's-era Bonnie Raitt vibe to it, but with less (noticeable) guitar. It's probably a better album overall than her first, but I'll probably listen to it less.

DVD Talk Platinum Edition
Phish - Hampton Comes Alive! - Great box set. Two complete concerts, very high energy. Filled with rarities, interesting covers and inspired playing (especially on the second night).
Slobberbone - Everything You Thought Was Right Was Wrong Today - My favorite album by one of my favorite bands. Gritty tales about lost love and hard drinking.
The Triplets of Belleville Soundtrack - I love this disc. "Belleville Rendez-Vous" is a wonderful song, and the jazzy score ain't too shabby either.
Camper Van Beethoven - Tusk - Song for song cover of the Fleetwood Mac album. Some missteps but surprisingly high quality for the most part.

Scud Mountain Boys - "Massachusetts" (still my favorite Joe Pernice-related project)
90 Day Men - "Panda Park" (probably their finest work, and definitely their strangest - I've had MP3s of this for a while, but just picked up a "real" copy yesterday)
Yo La Tengo - "Summer Sun" (this album has never clicked with me - boring, and their worst since "May I Sing With Me")

DVD Talk Hall of Fame
The Robot Ate Me - They Ate Themselves
Imaginary Johnny - The Upside of the Downside
Le Tigre - Remixes
Brittle Stars - EP & Remixes
Mojave3 - Excuses for Travelers
The Cansecos - ST
Camera Obscura - Underachievers, Please Try Harder
Books - The Lemon of Pink
Electrelane - The Power Out
Husbands - Introducing the Sounds of Husbands
Leopold - Dreaming Is For Anyone
Mascott - Dreamer's Book
Microphones - Live In Japan
Mountain Goats - We Shall All Be Healed
VA- The Sounds Of The Geographically Challenged
The Weakerthans - Reconstruction Site
L'Altra - In The Afternoon
Ballboy - Club Anthems
Consonant - ST
Viva Voce - Lovers, Lead the Way
The Very Most - Making the Case for Me
I'm really enjoying the Cansecos so far. It's getting to the point where if I hear that a band is from Toronto, I buy the CD automatically. Other standouts from my pile: Camera Obscura, Eletrelane, and The Very Most.

Yeah, I do think Home is a great album, a step above their first two albums. You may disagree, of course, but your comment leads me to believe you've never listened to the album. (I could be wrong about that, of course.) If you haven't for whatever reason, I just think you should try.
Just trying to keep a positive vibe in here...
