I'm torn here...Lost in Translation is probably my favorite movie of the last five-ten years, but I really think ROTK deserves to win for the accomplishment of the whole trilogy.

Well, I'd put Lost In Translation in my top 3 of the year and I'm pretty damned sure ROTK will be my #1 pick unless I'm totally surprised, so I'm happy with these awards. Man, wouldn't it be great if Bill Murray gets the Best Actor Oscar?

Given that Lost in Translation had more time to settle in critic's minds during the last few months, I'm not surprised it would win a few preliminary awards.

Still hoping that ROTK blows it away, though. Don't count your chickens before they hatch.

Oh yeah, isn't this the first year that Miramax/Dreamworks hasen't made any big critical fuss? (I know Cold Mountain isn't out yet, but it keeps looking like it's going to not go over well...)

I think Peter Jackson will win a lot of Best Directors but not Best Picture.

I hope that's how it goes anyway.

Some excellent picks, and I'm so happy for Sofia Coppola and Bill Murray! Glad to see Sarsgaard get recognition -- he and "Shattered Glass" were excellent!

I am happy to see Sofia Coppola, Bill Murray, and Lost in Translation get rocognized because that is my favorite that I have seen this year, or almost any year at that matter. I am especially happy for Bill Murray because due respect has been a long time coming for him.

I'll give it to Bill Murray at this point and I haven't seen Lost in Translation yet.

Did see ROTK today - wow. What an amazing film. Even if it doesn't win best picture, Peter Jackson should receive Best Director.

Why? Most people seem to love this film. It didn't direct itself. I thought maybe "The Virgin Suicides" was a fluke, but "Lost in Translation" confirmed she has talent behind the camera (and as a writer).
