Last Night (1998) - Universal vs. Lion's Gate DVD

According to amazon.com, the Universal/MCA release of Last Night (1998) is OOP and was in full-screen (P&S) and had a theatrical trailer as the only bonus feature. The current in print DVD is from Lion's Gate and I'm having trouble finding if it's P&S or widescreen and if there's any other special features or a comparison of the transfers. I tried both DVD comparison sites I know of, dvdbeaver and dvdcompare.org.uk and neither have Last Night listed. According to some sites the recent (August 18, 2003) Lion's Gate release is P&S, but it looks like the info is just copy and pasted from the prior Universal release. Please let me know if you have any information about these DVDs and which one is better.

Thanks.

If memory serves, I believe both versions are the same content-wise.

DVDProfiler seems to confirm my thoughts.

I wish they would re-release this film in anamorphic widescreen.

It's a great Canadian film that deserves much better treatment that this P&S atrocity.

Great Movie. I believe both are out of print at this time.
The end of the movie must look horrible P&S.

The Independent Film Channel runs the film widescreen all the time.

Neither. I compared both very closely and and there's some opening of the frame (a little more information on the top) and some scanning/zooming.

It's a complete mess anyway. Nice menu though.

I forgot to say my comparison was with the British digital TV showing which was widescreen anamorphic.

It also had far richer and deeper colours making the DVD look very washed out and almost black and white in places.

The USA/Canadian discs are in English.

I'm sure you mean British/UK

No, the film's only available in North America AFAIK.

Well, I did say version of the disc, not film.

After looking about, all I can find is that the Lions Gate and the Universal are both 1.33:1, bothe the US and Canadian versions. I can't find this film in release anywhere else.

Eh, you missed my point.

There is no English Region 2.

It is UK Region 2.
